Advantages: It will leave your hair actually feeling soft and manageable.
Disadvantages: It burns like buggery for the first couple of uses .
I was first attracted to the Original Source range of products after seeing their bright vivid colours on the supermarket shelves, their look really helped to make them stand out from their counterparts. They come in a number of very distinctive and different fragrances which also attracted me to them. I immediately had to take a closer look at these bright and colourful toiletries, and found that the label claimed that they are made from 100% natural ingredients which helped to make my mind up in making my first of many purchases from this range.
I have tried a few flavours in the Original Source range and the mint and tea tree has become my favourite so far, after trying the shower gel and shampoo in this fragrance I decided to try the conditioner so as to complete the minty experience!
The Mint and Tea Tree conditioner is suitable for all hair types, and can be used daily. However it is packed with 100% essential oils so it may not be suitable for all skin types. Original Source states that this conditioner will give you clean, long-lasting freshness whilst working to improve the condition of hair without causing build up.
I was amazed to see that an incredible 7,927 mint leaves are crammed into each bottle, along with this peppermint oil is one of the prominent ingredients used which gives this conditioner a stimulating, reviving and cooling effect; the other main ingredient being tea tree has natural anti bacterial and antiseptic properties. You will also be happy to know that no synthetic fragrances or perfumes are used and their products are not tested on animals.
The Original Source range of products all come packaged in transparent bottles with a clear label with black text, the vibrant gel, foam, or conditioners speak volumes so no fancy packaging is needed. Unlike the shampoo, the conditioner bottle sits on its flip top lid, and all of the important information is on the reverse of the bottle. It looks nice in the bathroom alongside the matching shampoo and shower gel; I like the fact that I can see how much product I have left.
I love the Tea tree and mint shower gel and shampoo in this range, and the tingling experience they give. The shampoo is milder than the gel but still tingles and awakens my senses when I wash my hair, I was eager to use the conditioner and I wasn't sure what to expect. Looking at the product in the bottle it is a very pale creamy peppermint green colour which gave me the impression that it would be mild and gentle on my hair and scalp. As it is a conditioner I wasn't expecting much of a zingy feeling as it is for conditioning the hair and not cleaning it. With it being an Original Source product I thought it would still tingle and leave an impression as all their products do.
~~My minty experience~~
After washing my hair I flipped open the lid of the conditioner the smell was less noticeable, even though my bathroom was already filled with steamy minty goodness so it would be hard to detect the smell from the bottle, it needs a good squeeze to dispense the required amount as the plastic bottle is fairly firm and the opening is very small. Once I had the desired amount in the palm of my hand I had to hold it close to my face to be able to detect the delicate mint smell, although I could feel a cooling sensation in my hand immediately. The conditioner is much thinner in consistency than the other branded conditioners that I have used, it is almost paste like.
I always smooth the conditioner over my hair massaging it into the tips of my hair making sure I have good coverage; I leave it on while I wash my body so it has time to work into my hair, as I like to leave it on my hair for the maximum amount of time to get the full benefit from the conditioner. I applied the conditioner to my hair and as soon as I started to spread it over my hair I was quite shocked, as the feeling was a bit intense, more so than the feeling I get from using the shampoo. My hair and scalp were tingling a lot more; I continued smoothing it over the rest of my hair by this point my scalp felt like it was burning and that I had just been catapulted headfirst down a ski slope that has been infused with peppermint popping crackles (if such things exist) as the feeling worked its way down my back from the water that had ran down my back. Oh my goodness. I didn't like the feeling one bit it was far too intense and I rushed to wash myself so I could rinse it off - not soon enough! I frantically rinsed it off but the cooling and tingling sensation didn't lessen, I tried to run my hands through my hair but it was still slightly tangled as I hadn't massaged it in properly. It rinsed out easily and after getting out of the shower my scalp was still tingling for some time after and my back felt icy cold, I could smell the mint as I ran my hand though my hair and it left the smell on my hand. My hair didn't feel soft and tangle free I thought that this was probably due to the fact that I was such a baby and didn't work the product into my hair and leave it on for long enough for it to have achieved good results.
I wasn't going to give up just yet though...
I was a little hesitant to use it the next day but I wanted to like it and it was the only conditioner I had and I didn't want it to go to waste, I thought to myself it couldn't have been that bad could it? After washing my hair I reached for the conditioner and squeezed a little more out than the previous time as it didn't quite cover my hair and I wanted to make sure I made the effort this time. I smoothed it over my hair with caution hoping that it wasn't as bad as I had thought, but oh boy, it was! It felt tingly and in a not so pleasant way my head felt like it was burning and the nape of my neck was too. I was brave and I left it on for the required minute as instructed on the bottle, my eyes felt like they were going to pop out of my head and I couldn't wait to rinse it off. I foolishly opened my eyes thinking I had rinsed it off only to find the same cooling sensation around my eyeballs - thankfully not to the same degree but rather odd all the same. My hair felt smoother and I worked my fingers through the few tangles, the conditioner didn't leave any residue behind just the tingling sensation. My hair felt smooth once I had towel dried it and it felt conditioned and smelt minty fresh but it wasn't over powering, the scent remains on the hair for some time after.
Day three...I must be crazy to want to use this again!
I was a little reluctant to use the conditioner again as I knew it was going to burn, I did want soft manageable hair though so I used a bit more this time. As the first couple of times it didn't feel as though I had enough to cover my hair evenly, my hair is different lengths all over but the longest side just touches my shoulder and it is of a medium thickness. I decided to work the conditioner into the tips of my hair first and then use the remainder to massage it into my scalp - it didn't feel quite as bad but it still tingled. My hair felt much better when it came to rinsing it, it felt much softer and tangle free. I was pleased with the results.
By the end of the week my hair had got used to the conditioner and the bizarre feeling it gave. I was pleased that I persisted and felt quite happy with myself he-he. I have been using this conditioner for a couple of weeks now and my hair is feeling soft and conditioned and minty clean! After using the product I am able to run my fingers through my hair with ease and it is feeling soft. I am happy with the results as the conditioner doesn't have any fancy claims other than it will leave your hair feeling refreshed and clean and it will remove build up. I am happy to say that it certainly lives up to its claims and considering it is a lot cheaper than the conditioners that I usually buy it seems to do what I want it to.
Original Source products are on offer quite a lot so it is worth giving it a try. Personally I think I might try a different scent from their range and leave this one for the warmer months or for when I need a refreshing wakeup call when I'm feeling drowsy and it will be good to use when feeling stuffy with a cold as this stuff will clear the senses. It makes my head feel like it's burning in a bucket of ice and extra strong spearmint, my head and my back feel cold and tingly - so not great for the cold winter months, maybe it will be better to use during the very few warm days we get. It will certainly give your morning a kick start and wake you up.
Tip: If your partner has annoyed you then leave this in the bathroom in place of any other conditioner you may have and it will startle them. he-he. What a shame my boyfriend doesn't have any hair to condition ha-ha.
