Why I brought the product

While at my hairdressers, who I trust completely, he suggested that I try this hairspray, as it was good for my hair due to its conditioning properties. I only ever used to borrow my mum's hairspray and it was a good handbag size, so I thought I would give it a go.

About the product

Osis is a product by reputable and well known hair company Schwarzkopf Professional. Schwarzkopf have many brands under their name, and I have used quite a few and have always found them all to be of good quality. Osis is frequently used to style catwalk models hair.

What Schwarkopf say about the product:
"Osis Mini Giant Strong Hold Compact Hairspray has a formula, twice as concentrated in a compact 100ml spray that delivers as many applications as a 200ml standard spray. This spray is fast drying, style fixing with a long-lasting medium control that will brush out easily".

Osis has several hairstyling products including hairspray, styling gel and wax. Osis have a control rating of 1-3 measuring the hold of the product. 1 being the lowest hold and 3 being the strongest hold. Osis Mini Giant hairspray has a rating of 2 - being medium hold. I would say this is a sufficient hold and is already a strong hold, so the rating of 3 would be an extremely strong hold.

What the product looks like

The hairspray comes in a 100ml compacted can and contains the same amount of hairspray as a 200ml can would. It is metallic and comes in a lovely red colour, any writing or information comes in silver or black writing. The can looks good, and would be something you would feel good pulling out of your handbag to use infront of people. The can has some information on the back, but this is written in very small writing, I have good eyesight and found it difficult to read.

Effects on your hair

The hairspray has a good hold and you only need to spray a small amount for a effective hold. If you spray too much then it can be noticable on your hair and can feel and appear sticky but this can be brushed out. You have to just get used to the amount you need. The hairspray has a really good hold but if it is extremely windy outside, it can still blow your hair around however much you spray on. I most use the hairspray to keep my fringe in place, as it is a right pain, and it works, it keeps it in place and looking good. Although the hairspray doesn't leave your hair feeling sticky, if you get it on your hands, I find it can leave them feeling sticky and leaves a coat of hairspray on them, which is difficult to wash off. The hairspray dries quickly on your hair, without drying it out and it doesn't leave your scalp flakey or dry. The hairspray has a conditioning effect on your hair, as long as you do not over use. The effects of the hairspray last for 24 hours, even when you can no longer feel it. When it feels like the hairspray has worn out or when I brush it out to restyle it then straighten it, the hairspray is still in the hair so is sometimes difficult to restyle, even though the product advertises that it is easy to brush or and restyle. The hairspray does not smell too strong, unlike some others, although it has a distinctive hairspray smell, it is not overpowering. As the hairspray comes in a 100ml can but has the contents of a 200ml can, it lasts a long time and is only necessary to use a small amount, I find it lasts me about 6 months with daily use.

Directions for use

Although the can doesn't display any directions for use, I found these directions work the best. Hold can approx 30 cm away from hair and lightly spray a little bit at a time on your hair until you get used to the correct amount to use. Wash hands after use.

This hairspray has all the usual warnings for hairsprays, such as keep away from naked flames etc, these are all clearly stated on the back of the can.

This product can be recycled, which is recommended.
