      ~Protect and Smooth~

Pantene offer a range of hair care products suited to various hair types. I will be discussing my experience of the 'Protect and Smooth Shampoo' which is aimed at those with coloured hair.

This shampoo is presented in a simple, white plastic bottle with a flip cap at the top. The bottle can be recycled and has a 12month shelf life. Pantene state that this shampoo contains their 'Pro V advanced formula' with a colour protector. Your hair should be left shiny, smooth and protected against any damage that styling products may cause. Pantene also claim that a protective layer will be added to your air to prolong and seal in the colour. This shampoo is best suited to those with coloured or highlighted hair and there is a matching conditioner available.

      ~Where To Buy~

At the moment, a 400ml bottle of this shampoo can be purchased from Tesco priced at £3.69. The same size of bottle can also be bought from Asda for £3.00 and is part of a '2 for £4.00' offer at present. A smaller 250ml size bottle is £2.87. Alternatively, Boots offer the larger size priced at £3.69 and buy one get one free! I have also spotted it in Poundworld.

      ~My Thoughts~

Around 3 weeks ago, I found myself with soaking wet hair and no shampoo left. I sent my fiance to the small Boots store which is on our street and asked him to pick me up some shampoo. I normally wouldn't buy Pantene as I haven't had very good results previously but with very limited choice in the small store, I had to use whatever my fiance returned with. We have both been using this shampoo but to be honest, I have been quite disappointed with it. I have shoulder length, thick hair which is colour treated and very dry. My fiance has short, normal hair.

The shampoo is easy to dispense and is pleasant to apply. The shampoo has an easy to work with consistency - fairly thick, creamy and with a glossy appearance. It spreads through my hair well and I don't find that I need very much to create a creamy, fluffy lather. It smells gorgeous - a real clean, fresh and slightly sweet aroma which I find appealing. Whilst rinsing the lather from my hair, I notice that my hair doesn't feel all that soft. I normally follow up with a conditioner but sometimes I am in a rush so don't have time. If you have dry hair like me, your hair will definitely benefit from a coat of conditioner as this shampoo doesn't moisture my hair well.

Once rinsed, there is no residue on my hair but my hair does feel a bit weighed down and limp. There is no bouncy softness which I prefer from a shampoo. My hair does feel fairly clean but one thing I dislike about this shampoo is how my scalp reacts to ir. I have a dry scalp which providing I use a decent shampoo, remains calm. I found myself scratching my scalp after using this. It wasn't an allergic reaction by any means but there was something in the shampoo which irritated my scalp which was previously under control. As a result of this, I noticed dry bits (not dandruff I may add) on the lengths of my hair and around my parting each time I brushed my hair. This isn't an ideal look when you have dark hair!

As I said before, this shampoo doesn't soften as much as I would like though doesn't leave my hair in bad condition at all. Those with less dry hair may notice that hair is smoother. It is best to apply a conditioner. I found that whilst my hair looked shiny and clean, it became greasy really quickly. I normally wash my hair every 2-3days but after using this shampoo, I found myself needing to wash it on a daily basis which is not practical for me. This shampoo does keep my hair looking freshly coloured. I coloured my hair a few weeks ago and my Mum in law asked (last weekend) if I had just done my hair so the colour is staying fresh and noticeable well. I occasionally use a hair dryer and straighteners and the shampoo protects me hair well from these heat appliances.

      ~Final Thoughts~

My hair smells gorgeous after washing my hair with this shampoo and it locks in my colour well. My fiance has commented that his hair feels a little greasy not long after washing it and that alone is a put off for me. I have used this up as I don't like wastage but I won't be buying it again. It is no good for my dry scalp. I don't expect any shampoo to cure or eliminate my dry scalp but most don't cause it to flake like this one has. It doesn't deliver enough hydration either (unless you count grease as hydration ha!) Two stars from me. There are much better alternatives.

      Thanks for reading :)
