I bought some Pantene Extra Hold Volumising Mousse as I was having an up-do and the hairdresser had suggested that I use this beforehand to keep the style in place and to give my hair more lift. I bought this can for only £1.29 from Home Bargains but to be honest it didn't do a great deal for my hair in terms of adding extra volume much at all.
I used this mousse on a fair few occasions and actually I have just over half of the bottle left now and I have treid using slightly more and slightly less but it doesn't really give me an more volume than I had before. It has quite a pleasant fragrance and it is off white in colour and the normal consistency, I would say, of your average hair mousse. It's important to wash your hands after using it as it can feel tacky though not in the hair, only on the hands.
On the plus side, at least this mousse does not make my hair feel sticky as I have found with some other mousse's have used but overall it is very disappointing and I cannot really recommend it. I will try another brand next time I go to buy mousse.
I think I bought this after watching a slightly unsure review on youtube, of someone who used this mousse in combination with another one - and her hair was indeed BIG!
Since I'm always in a quest of making my hair look bigger, I went on and gave the Pantene mousse a try, especially as it is low-price compared to other volume mousses I've seen in Boots and Superdrug.
It gives my hair a little boost and shine when I apply it every morning, and in the happy cases it lasts for the 7 hours I'm out and it gives the hair a nice fragrance of freshness. However, as my hair is naturally very straight, the volume is not as obvious as it might be on different types of hair - but maybe the fact that it gives some volume even to MY hair says something!
However, the indications say to apply it on damp hair - I'd warn against this, as I did this once and my hair turned out sticky and really horrible (after just washing it!). It might be just my hair, but I'd really not do this again.
Overall, it's a good product, but doesn't do anything extraordinary to the hair.
This mousse comes in a thin white aluminium bottle with a black pop off lid, and it looks quite good on your dressing table. There was 200ml in my bottle, but i'm sure you can get them in 300ml bottles too. It cost me around £2.50 from Asda but they are a little more at places such as Boots and Superdrug..
I've had my 200ml bottle since May LAST year and it's still going strong, so they last quite a while! It's easy to dispense the mousse with just pressing the pump at the top of the bottle. I use it pretty much every day (just one/two pumps) even if it's just to tame some unruly baby hair.
All I have to ask Pantene is.. Where is the volume that you promised?
Aside from not doing what it says on the tin, so to speak, it is a really good hairspray that holds every day hairstyles in place (such as a bun/ to tame curls). It also gets rid of stray hairs when putting your hair up, which to women is a godsend.
The only thing I don't really like is the smell, it's quite strong (sort of reminds me of normal hairspray) so i need to spray something else before I go out.
So the pretty low rating is due to not doing what it promised, otherwise it's a very good hairspray! It promises 'Extra Hold' and it fulfils that, my hair stays in place all day. But to be honest, if you're buying a Volumising product - it's obviously what you want to get!
For all you curly heads, I'm sure you'll appreciate a mousse that gives you gorgeous curls that don't look like they're full of mousse. Some mousses just don't do anything, some just make your hair look wet and scruffy and some make your whole head of hair stick together like a Lego man.
Well with the right technique you can achieve lovely, shiny, separated curls with this product and it will last for days. If I scrunch this mousse evenly through my hair and blow dry the excess moisture of mfy hair and leave to dry naturally before going over it again with the hairdryer. The style can then be revived really easily for the next couple of mornings by going over it again with the hairdryer and fingering out the curls again.
You don't get the stickiness that you can get with other mousses but it can be quite heavy if you don't scrunch with the hairdryer a few times.
