Advantages: Non-medicinal scent, does control light dandruff

Disadvantages: Not for serious dandruff problems

My husband started using the Pantene Pro-V products to help improve the quality of his hair, but had to switch between that and Head & Shoulders to control his dandruff. But when he found that Pantene had a dandruff shampoo, he literally grabbed it off the shelf.

My husband has hair that is thinning on top and he's found that the Pro-V products really make his hair feel thicker and healthier. While these products haven't helped with re-growth, his patch certainly hasn't gotten any thinner since he started using Pantene Pro-V products. But he also wanted something for his dandruff, and it seems like he's found a winner here.

The Pantene Pro-V products come in very attractive, new bottles these days (not the one pictured above - check out the web pages to see what this looks like now), and the anti-dandruff shampoo has a very attractive new silver and light blue design, with a rim of metallic light blue on the oval flip top. There's a nice edge on the flip top so it isn't difficult to open this with wet hands.

When you first open this product, you'll find that the scent is one that has no medicinal overtones to it. It has a soft and clean scent much akin to Dove cream soaps. Using a small amount you get a very rich, thick lather with this shampoo, which doesn't overpower you with the scent. This shampoo rinses out very well, and I think it has a bit of a conditioner in it, since afterwards your hair will feel smooth as if you had used a conditioner. Since neither I nor my husband have long hair, I can't tell you if this shampoo leaves your hair with more or less tangles than if you had used a conditioner.

When your hair is dry, the scent seems to stay, but not too strong as to overpower your perfume. Since my husband started using this shampoo, his hair looks shiny - but not greasy - and very healthy, and even seems thicker than before. Plus, he really doesn't have any more problems with his dandruff. However, when I used it, it didn't control my very bad dandruff at all, and I had to return to using my Head & Shoulders. No problem there - now we both have our own shampoos and they last a whole lot longer that way.

I haven't been able to find an exact price for this product in the UK, but here in Israel this shampoo is slightly more expensive than the rest of the Pantene Pro-V line and about the same as Head & Shoulders. In general, its price is usually on the higher end of the shampoos. Still, it costs much less than some of the fancier shampoos like L'Oreal. So, the value for the money is only good.

In sum, I'd say that if you want a nice smelling shampoo that will give your hair gloss and thickness, but will also control that light case of dandruff, this may just be the shampoo for you. However, if you have really bad dandruff, you really must find something stronger.

Thanks for reading!

Technical Stuff:

Pantene Pro-V products are a product of Proctor & Gamble, and they have a great web page which you can find at http://www.pantene.co.uk/?flash=true. I won't list the ingredients here since I can't translate them from the Hebrew on my bottle, but I'm sure other reviews here have the ingredients listed. If you have any questions, you can call them on their toll free numbers 0800 028 3578 (UK) and 1800 509 496 (IRL). I looked but I didn't see if they declared anywhere if they do or don't do animal testing.

Pantene Pro-V products are available at most drug stores and department stores for around £3.30 for a 400ml bottle.

Summary: A good shampoo for people with mild cases of dandruff.

Hmmm.... I've never really got on with Pantene, for some reason it makes my hair go really lank. Good review though.

Cheers
