Advantages: Great colour shampoo that really works

Disadvantages: It's cruel!

Ten years ago, shampoos designed to make your hair colour glow came out of the bottle in a horrible sludgy mess, smelling alarmingly industrial. I was so put off by my experience back in my early teens, that it was only when I was given a free sample of Pantene's new range of colour-protecting shampoos and conditioners that I was tempted to try these again.

Pantene colour expressions has revolutionized shampoo for natural and colour treated hair alike. Like many colour-orientated shampoos, it comes in bottles that represent the colour the product cares for: red (containing cherry bark extract), brown (containing fennel extract) or blonde (containing sunflower extract). There's also a special shampoo for highlights (containing chamomile extract). The packaging is pleasant and unobtrusive, though, unlike some other brands like Sunsilk whose packaging I find rather busy on the eye.

The shampoos themselves are pearlescent, slightly thick, and smell fresh and natural. A small amount lathers up quickly, and when you rinse, you can feel how clean your hair is instantly. Though these products don't quite give the same level of glossy finish as the ordinary range of Pantene shampoos and conditioners, they will leave your hair shiny and tangle-free. After a couple of washes, I definitely noticed that my colour seemed deeper and fuller.

However, a quick internet search reveals that Pantene are one of the worst offenders for testing cosmetics on animals. So I won't be buying this product, even though it does a good job, since my new year's resolution is to stick to cruelty free products wherever possible. I don't want to be haunted by images of tortured rats and rabbits whenever I wash my hair!

Summary: A great product, shame it's completely unethical.

As a bald man, I was tempted to say not useful ha ha. Dreadful that they test on animals - so I probably wouldn't use it even if I did still have some hair lol. Good review though.
