Advantages: gets hair clean, cheap

Disadvantages: sometimes have to wash hair twice, results very average

Pantene is not a brand I am really a fan of to be honest, and the only reason I bought this shampoo was because it was on special offer with the conditioner. It comes in a version for blonde, brunette or red hair, and obviously having brown hair I went for the brunette version. I have used a few so called colour-enhancing shampoos and conditioners in the past and never really found that they made much difference to my hair, so in all honesty this was not a product I was looking forward to using!

The bottle the shampoo comes in is quite nice, being tall and cylindrical in a brown colour with gold and coppery brown accents on the label, which I think make it look slightly luxurious.

The bottle states that this shampoo is suitable for natural and colour-treated brunette hair and says it will leave you with glowing, velvety brunette hair and apparently it contains fennel extracts although it doesn't explain what benefit those will actually be to my hair. My hair is dyed and I was hoping that this would prolong the colour to give me a bit of extra time between colouring it.

The shampoo is a really nice colour - it's a sort of light coffee brown colour and has a pearly effect to it. I find that even with my long thick hair only a small amount of this shampoo is required to create a good lather. Unfortunately though, sometimes washing just once doesn't leave my hair feeling very clean, so on a couple of occasions I've had to wash it twice before conditioning which is a bit of a pain.

The scent of the shampoo is pleasant - it has a light, mildy fruity scent - but I cannot put my finger on exactly what it smells like.

After using this, I found that it leaves my hair clean and soft and thankfully doesn't dry it out, as my hair has been quite dry as of late. As for improving the colour I don't think this is the case. Although I don't think my colour has faded since I began to use this, I don't think it has enhanced shine or created 'multi-dimensional brunette hair' as the bottle claimed that it will do.

When I first started using this I was using it with an Alberto Balsam conditioner, but now I'm using the matching one, and do find the results I get when using both together are better, but I do think the conditioner is far superior to the shampoo.

A 250ml bottle of this costs £2.93 from Superdrug.

Overall I found this shampoo to be quite average and I don't think I would buy it again. There is nothing outstanding about the results it gives or its fragrance and as I mentioned I sometimes find I need to wash my hair twice when using this to make it feel clean. One to avoid, I think.

Summary: OK but I won't be buying it again
