Advantages: Works very well.
Disadvantages: None.
As someone who regularly bleaches and colours her hair I've been investing in 'intensive' conditioners for some time in an effort to restore some moisture to my chemically frazzled hair shafts. At first I tried several brands but then I discovered that Elvive products were quite effective and began to use them exclusively. That changed when I saw this Pantene product on sale for marginally less than my regular Elvive tub of the same size. The rival products are both around the £3.90 price tag and are marketed as being a stronger masque-style hair treatment than your average conditioners.
The product is labelled as 'Pantene Pro-V Repair and Protect' and is described as an 'intensive hair treatment'. It is not made specifically for a certain type of hair, i.e. dry or coloured, so anybody can use this. The product comes in a 200ml sized sturdy pearly white plastic tub whose labels are tinged with gold and black. The product looks very sleek and professional. The tub has much information on the label including a paragraph on the benefits of the product. Pantene promise that the conditioner will add moisture and 'leave hair more resilient against styling'. They also claim the conditioner will aid shine and give nourishment to the hair. The Pro-V label refers to their vitamin enriched formula.
I have always used intensive conditioners as a weekly treatment as I think the forumla tends to feel quite heavy and thick over the hair. Once a week seems to be enough to keep my hair in order. On the instructions of use on this Pantene product it doesn't specify how often to use this but merely states to apply after shampooing and conditioning (with a regular strength conditioner) and to leave for 3-5 minutes before rinsing. I have been using it once a week though and would recommend this to other users.
The conditioner is glossy and white and has a thick, jelly like consistency. It is easy to scoop it out of the tub with your fingers and seems to stay in soft peaks in your hand. It is actually so dense in texture that whatever fingermarks you leave in the tub stay in that impression until you next use the conditioner! The fragrance is quite mild and airy. It has a sort of cotton-fresh, summer fields kind of aroma - not too fruity or false. It is a mature sort of fragrance that I think would appeal to most customers.
I find the conditioner is easy to apply to the hair and work through. It does seem to have a rather waxy or greasy feel to it. It's as though i'm insulating my hair with some kind of waterproof substance! It is mild on the scalp and it is easy to leave it on the hair for the 3-5 minutes as it does not drip or feel unpleasant. After the stated length of time it is easy to rinse out and as I'm running the clean water through my hair I can feel it is instantly thicker and stronger.
My damp hair is easy to comb through and style and the pleasant fragrance remains. Once dry my hair feels tougher yet soft. It is as though the conditioner has helped to strengthen the hair without making it more coarse or unmanageable. My hair is left quite shiny too - more so on the less damaged parts of hair though. Even on the most damaged, driest ends of my hair though, the changes for the better are obvious with the hair being less flyaway and unruly.
I am very pleased with how this Pantene product performs for me. I would say it performs slightly better than my other regular instensive conditioner from Elvive. This product feels like much more of a luxury and gives a more obvious result. The only advantage Elvive has is that it's conditioners are aimed at specific hair types and they also promise different results from each conditioner treatment. Although I believe you can now get intensive treatments aimed at coloured hair from Pantene. However, I'm happy with this Pantene product and will keep using it!

- 15/07/09 I think I need this my hair so badly damaged since dying it blonde and having highlights regularly. I think I might go back to my natural colour because I can't stand my hair being so frizzy. |
