I used to really love the Pantene range of hair care products but about a year ago I became slightly disillusioned with it. Firstly, I started to think that there was just far too much choice in terms of not only shampoo and conditioners, but the range seemed to be expanding almost daily and I could spend ages in the shampoo and hair care aisle debating which type I should buy this week for my hair. I also think that it became fairly over-hyped and far to expensive, and for all of those reasons I stopped using the range entirely and switched brands. That was about a year ago and until the beginning of October of this year, I hadn't bought Pantene really very much at all, and only used up whatever shampoos and conditioners I had left over in the house.
At the beginning of last month I had asked my husband to do some shopping and gave him a list. Shampoo for 'normal' hair was part of this list but I hadn't specified which type he should buy. He came back with Pantene Ice Shine Shampoo and though I wasn't particularly over the moon with his choice, he did explain to me that it was reduced to only £1.99 for a 500ml bottle.
I have used this quite a few times since he brought it back home (and so has he) and I can't say I am enamoured with this particular shampoo in any way. It's meant to be designed for all hair types but to be honest it really does dry my hair out an awful lot and it leaves it feeling as though it's desperately lacking in moisture and it looks lank, dry and feels terribly brittle. No matter how much deep conditioning treatment I try to use after I have washed my hair with this shampoo, it seems t make no difference at all. My husband says it's 'fine' but then that is his stock reply about any type of shampoo or shower gel etc.
The shampoo itself smells okay, it lathers okay, it rinses off okay but the way t makes my hair feels after I have used it, is just plain awful. I cannot see to be able to style my hair at all after I have used this shampoo and it dries it out and makes it look in very bad condition.
I have to say that there is no way I am going to go back to using this range again, and using this particular bottle of Ice Shine shampoo just reinforces to me why I gave up on this range. I've used many different types of Pantene products and only one or two of them have been okay and the rest have been pretty much rubbish.
No, of course it's not free, but this paticular bottle of shampoo was left in my bathroom after 4 different family members recently descended on us for a few days, so I don't know who was the culprit, but I shall enjoy benefitting from my little windfall...thanks guys.
This shampoo comes in a tall thin, clear plastic bottle, with a clear plastic topand a turquoise pop up lid. I have the version for fine hair which is slightly different to the picture above. It has a turquoise and light brown label, which I find quite plain and not very appealing. The label tells me it is Pantene Pro V, and the only other words written are quite tiny where it tells me it is for fine hair, it is Aqualight, and it is silicone free. I do not know what the significance of this is, but I suppose it must be good if they make a point of telling me. On the rear of the bottle is a utilitarian white sticker, giving all the usual instructions and information that we all ignore completely.
The shamppo itself is completely clear and of the usual slow running consistency you might expect. It has a quite delicious fruity fragrance, like a big bowl of apples and pears, that gives me a clean crisp sensation while lathering it up. A squirt into my palm the size of a 2 pound coin was enough to lather up my shoulder length, but fine hair very well, and it feels smooth and creamy in my hair. It washes out no faster or slower than any other shampoo.
I would normally always condition my fine, dry and slightly damaged hair, but for the purposes of this review I shampooed my hair this morning, and didn't condition. I am overall quite pleased with the results. My hair of course did not comb through as easily as it normally would, but it has dried suprisingly soft and healthy. It feels light and not at all weighted down, and the lovely smell has lingered nicely. Of course if I had conditioned my hair the smell would have been hidden by the conditioner, unless I decided to go and buy the matching conditioner for this product.
Would I buy it again?
A quick internet search tells that the 250ml bottle that I have retails for 2.79, whereas a larger sized 400ml bottle is 3.99. At these prices, No I would not buy it again as I like a bargain and think this is s bit pricey, but I would definitely choose it if I saw it on special offer somewhere.
