Advantages: Silky, Shiny hair, Cheap
Disadvantages: Can be a little too rich
First Impressions
I do not have incredibly curly hair and it is not really frizzy at all. However I have still found that Pantene Pro-V’s perfect curl range is fabulous. I used it on an off chance one day because my normal conditioner had run out and it was just there. I always thought that it would be far too rich for my fine hair but this was not the case at all. My hair was left luxuriously soft and completely stroke provoking, I could barely keep my hands out of it as it was just so silky. It was a little rich and I had lost a little volume but the shine compensated for this and providing I use a volumising mist I’m fine (me not my hair).
Product Description and Use
The packaging in my opinion is quite aesthetically pleasing. Its monochrome instead of being mediocre looks sophisticated and the gold banding gives it an air of luxury. The pink pattern is indicative of the perfect curls range and makes it easily distinguishable form other products in the range. The conditioner is a white colour and has a fairly viscous, yet silky consistency. I have found that less tends to be more as it is quite rich and for those with normal thickness hair only a fifty pence sized blob is necessary. As with most brands the shampoo and conditioner compliment each other so firstly wash hair with Pantene pro-v curls shampoo and rinse thoroughly. Then wring your hair gently to remove excess water and massage the appropriate amount of conditioner into the roots, working upwards and applying very lightly at the roots so as not to flatten the hair. Then comb through with a wide tooth comb, again starting at the tips so as not to tear the hair which is vulnerable when wet. If you have the time I recommend wrapping your hair in a towel and letting it soak in for five minutes or so for extra shine. This isn’t instructed on the packaging and isn’t vital but a little extra pampering always feels good. The conditioner smells very distinctive and if it is not washed out properly it can be quite overpowering. It is one of those conditioners which clings to your hair as you try to wash it out so it is worth staying under the shower a little bit longer. Go by the rule that if each section of your hair (top, side etc) squeaks when tugged gently you are safe but until then keep blasting it with water as this product can build up on hair leaving it a little greasy looking. I have found that it works to maximum effect if after thoroughly rinsing you blast your hair with icy cold water. This will give maximum shine as it flattens the hairs cuticle but be warned, you have to be quite brave.
Effect
My first impression of this conditioner has remained pretty constant. As with all new hair products the first use yields amazing results and this diminishes slightly as your hair becomes used to the product. This has happened to a smaller extent than most other conditioners I have used but if you want to go for the real wow factor for an occasion switch to another brand a few weeks before and then continue use just before the event. For my wavy hair the conditioner worked perfectly. My hair felt hydrated and any frizz was eliminated. The conditioner did not enhance the texture of my hair to a great extent, although it did encourage the formation of a few ringlets. However other products in the range do this brilliantly and I particularly recommend the perfect curls crème, especially as the conditioner primes your hair for the crème and this is how maximum results can be achieved. The conditioner is nourishing but I feel that on those with already greasy hair it could be too much and perhaps should only be applied at the tips. However for the majority of those with curly and especially wavy hair I fully endorse it.
Value for Money
The conditioner is £1.79 for 200 ml at Boots and works out as 89.5p per 100 ml. This is relatively cheap, especially compared to salon brands which do not actually give a better effect. There is usually some sort of offer on the range such as 3 for 2 or buy one get one free so I find it convenient to stock up on lots at such times. One quibble that many people have is that the range isn’t worth the money as it fails to give them the hair displayed in the adverts. Since the chosen models probably had gorgeous hair to begin with this probably isn’t at all fair and so it is amazing value for money.
Summary: Achieves what it claims in the name!
