I have naturally curly hair and I literally would not dream of going out of the house without any hair product on as my hair would just be a frizzy mess. I tend to not stick to just one hair product, I flit around and buy whatever is in special offer, new out, or just catches my eye at the time. As a result I have tried numerous different mousses and feel happy to review this one.
I last bought the Pantene Defined Curls mousse a couple of weeks ago. At the time nothing was on special offer in the shop and Pantene is a brand that I tend to trust. I had used this mousse before and remembered that this was a good one.
I paid £2.79 in my local Tesco store for my 200ml can of Pantene Defined Curls Mousse. This is more than I like to spend on a mousse but I think it is about the average of what is available in my local Tesco store so I guess it is reasonable.
I shower each morning and then after applying hair serum apply mousse onto my wet hair. Before using the mousse I shake the can, if you don't do this the mousse does not pump out properly. I use around 2-3 balls of this mousse on my shoulder length curly hair.
As I get my first ball of mousse out of this Pantene can I know it is a good mousse as although it looks air filled it feels nice and thick and doesn't just disappear as I apply it to my hair. It is thick enough to weigh down my hair to stop it frizzing which is my personal main aim. I find that this product helps gives me control over my hair enabling me to style with ease.
I find it difficult to say if Pantene Defined Curls Mousse actually does define curls or not because I have very defined curls anyway. I don't notice and difference with curl definition with this product, but, to be fair I have no requirement for this as my curls are always distinguishable.
I find that the effects of this product last all day until I sleep at night. If I apply a bit too much mousse to my hair my hair does go a bit hard but I would get this with all products. My hair never feels soft and flexible with this mousse but nor does it with any other mousse so this is no real difference.
Recently I had tried out a cheap mousse and I found it too light in my hair. I rescued the situation by adding a bit of this Pantene mousse onto my hair. For me this mousse is a good staple to have in my bathroom as I feel like I can rely on it.
I don't know about other curly haired people, but I am constantly disappointed in products out there for curly hair. The only products I have loved using on my hair weren't even intended for curly hair (one in fact was a straightening cream). Yet, I still seem to buy them with a sliver of hope that they will do what I want them to.
My usual mousse wasn't on offer (one of the non-curly haired items that I love) so I decided to go for something else. The Pantene Pro-V mousse for curly hair was on offer so I thought I'd give it a go.
** The Mousse **
As suggested the mousse is defined for those of us graced with curls. It suggests the mousse will define your curls and stop them getting frizzy. It is an ultra strong hold mousse to last all day and states that it is suitable for Normal to thick hair. My hair is quite thick compared to a lot of people so tend to side with thick haired products when I can. And of course it is supposed to leave your hair looking healthy and shiny.
To use you simply use at as you would a normal mousse. I tend to use it when my hair is still wet but has dried a bit in the towel and scrunch it into my hair.
** Experience **
Unfortunately this didn't surpass my already low expectations of another curly haired product. My hair was definitely not defined and my curls just didn't look that good. Frizz wise it did help a little but not greatly so. It does get extra points for helping the frizz though. The hold doesn't last all day. By the end of the day there is not much hold left. On the plus side my hair isn't too crunchy and feels nice and soft.
It did work well in my semi-thick hair but I can't say I have encountered a product that didn't like the thickness of my hair. Certainly not a mousse anyway.
My hair looks okay. It just has no definition, falls flat and doesn't look more healthy compared to other brands so it doesn't even have that going for it.
** Price and Availability **
I bought this mousse on offer (buy one get one free). An individual can of mousse costs £2.78. It can be found from most beauty stores. I got mine from Tesco.
** Overall **
It was a disappointing mousse for me and not something I'd recommend to fellow curly haired people. It doesn't do much for your curls and despite anything else it could do that really is the one that you want to work well.
I continue on my quest for good curly hair products.
I like to wear my hair both straight and curly and this mousse is perfect for creating curls.
My hair is very dry but it is naturally curly so with this mousse I can create curls very easily.
One of the things that I like about it is that like all the other pantene products it smells really lovely and leaves my hair smelling very fresh and uplifting. It is easy to use as you just shake it and then press down on the trigger to release the mousse which is runny to start with but transforms into a big foam. You have to be careful you don't get too much out as it does create loads of foam. This mousee lasts me ages because I don't need to use a lot to make my hair look curly. The bottle is a good size so there is plenty of mousse in it.
I really like this mousse because it makes my hair feel soft and shiny and definately makes it a lot less frizzy and helps to make my curls more defined. My curls are more bouncy when I use this mousse and it works better than other brands of mousse I have tried so it is worth paying more for.
I would recommend this for anyone who curls their hair or wants to enhance their curls because it makes my hair look so much nicer and much less dry and frizzy.
Pantene Pro-V Perfect Curls Mousse is a styling product to enhance curls whether you have wavy or very curly hair.
It is easy to use, just squirt into palm of hand and use after washing on wet or damp hair before styling.
The mousse smells nice and as if you have just stepped out of a hair salon and the mousse doesn´t leave hair sticky afterwards. Once blow dried you can still run your hands through your hair and the curls are really enhanced and bouncy which last about two days, on the third day they start to fall a bit flat but most likely you will have washed your hair and redone them by then.
I would say one of the best mousses on the market with a cheap price tag, smells nice and curls really are enhanced and there is no stickiness to hair like some other brands where the ends of the hair seem to stick and clump together. I think customers definately get value for money.

Your curls will be left curly, bouncy and defined.
** MY EXPERIENCE **
I use this mousse, along with the perfect curls shampoo and conditioner, and it really does work. I have naturally curly hair, but without a good product, it tends to me more wavy than curly, and slightly frizzy. This mousse forms beautiful curls which hold without making my hair go hard and crispy like some other products which I have tried. It also does not leave any residue in my hair. I find it will last all day, so no need to faff with your hair throughout the day!
However, if you have slightly frizzy hair (my baby hair goes frizzy and drives me insane), you will probably need another product as well as the perfect curls mousse (e.g. a serum).
This product comes in the standard aerosol bottle, which you must shake before dispensing! Whilst it is easily dispensed, it is easy to spray too much out!! The mousse is relatively firm once dispensed so is easy to apply, without it ending up all over the floor!!
It's not too expensive at about £3 ish, and one bottle lasts a long time so is very good value for money. For anyone with even slightly curly hair, this product is definitely worth a try!!
