Pantene Pro-V Repair & Protect Conditioner
Advantages: helps hair
Disadvantages: full of volume
My hair is very thick and I need to use conditioner every time I wash it so that I can get a brush through it afterwards and stop it from being completely tangled up. I usually use a smooth and sleek Pantene product to try to take out some of the volume but since being pregnant I've found that the condition of my hair isn't as good as normal so I wanted to swap to something that would improve it somewhat. I saw that this said it would 'repair' and 'protect' so thought that it sounded like a good option to go for.
I normally use Pantene Pro V products for washing my hair as I find that they are very effective and not overly priced either. You can often find them on offer or in bargain shops like Pound Land. Pantene make a variety of products for haircare and are owned by Procter and Gamble who seem to own hundreds of companies! They make usual products such as shampoo and conditioner but also others including mousses and leave in treatments all for wide varieties of hair so there should be something to suit everyone.
The Pantene Pro V Repair and Protect Conditioner bottle is the same shape as the other conditioners in this company. It is designed so that it sits on it's lid which makes getting the conditioner in and out easy as when it gets low you don't need to turn it upside down to get the remaining bits out. It is a tall, quite wide bottle which is not see through so you can't see when you are running low or what the conditioner looks like. The lid is black plastic and a flip cap. The colour scheme for this brand is a bronze colour. This makes it easy to spot on the shelf against the other Pantene bottles so you can reach for it straight away. It's nothing fancy really, it doesn't look exciting like some fancy shampoos and conditioners but it's perfectly fine.
The lid opens with a flip so it is easy to do whilst you are in the shower and already have soapy hands, you don't have to mess around with unscrewing caps and trying to put them back on. The lid does collect a bit of water inside it if you leave it on the side of the bath/shower so when you do open the lid be prepared for a bit of cold water to fall out! If you drop this bottle in the shower be warned- the lid can easily snap! We have had a few bottles with broken lids after they have been dropped but this doesn't effect the product inside.
Using the product
Opening the lid is easy because it's a flip cap and the conditioner comes out with ease. It's a bit thicker than the shampoo in this range but easily comes out without you having to squeeze it. At the end of the bottle you will need to squeeze it a little to help it come out but this is easy to do as the bottle isn't very stiff. The conditioner is pure white and quite thick which is what you would expect.
I put this in my hair starting at the roots and then working down to the tips. Unlike with shampoo I don't lather this up to create lots of bubbles as I use this to make my hair smoother and not to be cleaned like you would a shampoo so I just run it through my hair and try to get an even coverage. It does like to try to stick to the top of my hair and it does take a bit of time to ensure that it is spread out evenly down my hair. I then leave it in for a few minutes to let it 'work' and then rinse it out gently by using my fingers to help ensure that it is all out.
The smell of this shampoo isn't anything specific, just a clean, fresh smell which sticks to my hair afterwards making it smell nice and clean without it being pungent.
This conditioner is supposed to repair and protect your hair. According to Pantene it makes your hair 10 times more resilient against damage and is 3 times more moisturising. It has a specially designed channel that helps to lock in goodness to the hair. This is something that I certainly needed as I felt as though my hair was in quite poor condition and needed something to make it look and feel better.
I find that when using this my hair does feel a lot better. It is very soft to touch and is full of volume. I have been using this for a month now so think that is a good amount of time to see if it has lived up to what it says it does. I can agree that yes it does work! My hair certainly feels in better condition and I don't have to wash it as often as normal so assume it's something to do with the super channels this conditioner apparently has that helps to lock in the goodness. It is soft to touch and doesn't feel as dry.
I used to use the smooth and sleek range from Pantene and since using this one I've noticed my hair has much more volume so can conclude that the conditioners do work in different ways which is refreshing, it's good to see that a product does actually have different ways of acting instead of just being packaged differently and called something different to try to draw you in!
If you feel as though your hair is in poor condition then this range from Pantene is a good one to opt for as it does definitely work. I have given it four stars which may surprise seeing as I have found that it works well but for me personally I find that it adds a bit too much volume for my hair which is already thick enough so it isn't absolutely perfect for me.
Since using this my hair is definitely looking and feeling more healthy. I have no idea how to know scientifically what difference this product has made but just by looking and feeling my hair it is obviously different to before in a good way. I use this along with the shampoo and together they work well. You can also buy it combined in one bottle, a serum, an instant conditioner and a leave in treatment within this range so you have several options. I haven't tried any of the others though just the shampoo and this one.
It is easy to use- very easy to get out of the bottle, easy to apply to your hair and easy to rinse out so it doesn't mean having to add time and effort to your regime.
This is readily available in shops, I always like to buy it when it is on offer, sometimes i find it for 3 for 2 or in the pound shop for £1 so that is when I stock up. I do recommend Pantene, it is very affordable, doesn't try to sell itself to be something it's not and has never let me down yet.
Summary: 4 stars
