Advantages: none

Disadvantages: too many to list

I always purchase Straightening Shampoo from various brands as my hair is naturally very tight curls and I need any product I can get my hands on to tame down down these curls when I want to straighten my hair.

As a rule I normally tend to stick of Avon Advanced Techniques Straight n Sleek Shampoo and conditioner, or sometimes when I have a few extra pennies, I will treat myself to Umberto Gianini's straightening shampoo and conditioner, however I was in the chemist a week ago and I came across Pantene Pro V Smooth & Sleek Shampoo, which was on offer, half price at £1.50, so I thought I may as well try it out, you never know so at that time I was quite happen with my purchase.

Now I haven't used Pantene for years, probably even longer than that, i can safely say that I have never purchased it myself before however may have used it when you have them communal products when licing at home that mums always buy and have to make do for everyone.

The packaging of the product, I would say is very progressive. For this day and age that we are in, packaging means a lot I think and this particular botle reminds me of something that would have been in that communal cabinet back in the day. To start with, not knowing a great deal about the Pantene range, however assuming they follow suit with other brands, this particular Smooth and Sleek came in a white bottle with green writing on it, so I assume that colour products have a different colour writing, as do curling etc etc. I found it strange when looking at it that the design wasn't to bad on the front, with the Pantene Pro V logo, details of what sort of shampoo it is and what it will do to yur hair. However what seemed really odd to me was the Navy Blue top that it has on. It makes the product look as though it has had no though put into it and just had a lid put on, not mattering what colour it is just for the sake of it. For a well known brand, I thought the look of the bottle was relatively crap to put it blunt.

Now packaging isn't everything, but working in marketing I do tend to pick fault with what I feel is a bad concept for a design, so lets crack on to the product itself, which I was looking forward to using.

Pouring the normal amount I would into my hair, it looked like normal shampoo, white in colour with a slight pearlescent look to it and I started to massage it into my hair. Normally kowing how much to judge with my usual shampoo, I found this not to build a lather up as much as my normal shampoo, so on went a bit more. To be fairto the shampoo, on the first occasion of using it I had been out and left my hair naturally curly which I do tend to use a lot of hair spray to keep my curls in tact, so as I was using the shampoo, I just thought that it was battling with the hairspray and didn't think a great deal of it then.

However when using the shampoo when I have no other products on my hair I found it to be the same, my hair felt hard at the ends, course and wirey, which I wasn't liking the feel of it at all. I know conditioner helps but my normal shampoo doesn't normally do this.

Having blow dried my hair ready for straightening, I can't believe how dry my hair felt, I don't suffer with dry hair but I felt like the shampoo had taken some of the natural oils away from my hair and left it dry, as well as my scalp. Straightening my hair also, I don't think was any different from using Tesco 5 Stripe, it ws hard work, which normally it takes me half an hour to get it perfectly straight, using this shampoo, I ended up giving up.

I found I had no shine to my hair, it left it looking and feeling dry as well as my scalp, it felt wirey, and did not give me any confidence in Pantene products at all. I can't blame this one on my curls, it just simply isn't worth the money in my opinion and if I could score less than one star I would.

I know it only cost £1.50, but I would begrudge spending anything on these products!
