I'm not one for using lots of styling products, I don't use hair straighteners or curling devices and the only bit of heat I put near my hair is a medium setting on the hairdryer. I haven't dyed it for a few years and I usually wash it, dry it then spray a tiny amount of hairspray at the front to hold it off my face and I'm good to go. I do however have alot of static in my hair and find this very annoying. It's a family thing, my Dad has the same trouble and we're both prone to giving and receiving shocks due to this problem.
My hair is down to about the middle of my shoulder blades and occasionally gets a bit dry around the ends. A couple of months ago with some dryness and alot of flyaway hair to contend with I popped into our local Boyes to see what deep conditioners they had on offer. This Pantene Time Renewal Replenishing Mask was one of the few they had so at £1.19 for a 150ml tub I decided to buy it. I've since looked elsewhere and it usually retails at nearly £4 so I got a real bargain there!
The tub is round and fairly flat, a label on top tells us the name of the product and on the side it claims to "help fight signs of damage by restoring hair's sheen and silky feel" and claims to restore moisture to fatigued hair. Now I wouldn't say my hair is fatigued but it did feel in need of a boost!
The lid unscrews which isn't terribly practical when you have dripping hair and wet hands but as it's not a daily use product it didn't worry me too much. The conditioner smells slightly fruity with the underlying fresh smell of Pantene which isn't too bad. It is white in colour and like a thick, set cream.
It doesn't say how often you should use this mask so I just use it a couple of times a week if my hair needs it and less if it doesn't. The directions for use are to wash hair then apply this all over and leave for 3-5 minutes before rinsing well.
I tried this the same day I bought it and found the 3-5 minute wait a bit tedious! My hair was dripping all over the place and I ended up standing over the sink and counting in my head how long I'd been there. It rinses off easily, it feels a bit like it's left a coating of an oily substance on the hair even after rinsing.
After I dried my hair I found I had no static whatsoever which is a great result for me. I didn't think it "quenched" the dry bits of my hair particularly well so if you only wanted it for dry hair I don't think you'd be especially pleased with it. My hair stayed electric shock free for the remainder of the evening but by the next day I had flyaway bits again.
So the question is would I buy it again? Probably not. I will use it a couple of times a week until it has gone but to be perfectly honest I think I can achieve a better result with the old fashioned method of applying any conditioner and wrapping my hair in a warm towel for a few minutes before rinsing.
On the plus side it smells ok, is easy to use, can be bought for next to nothing in the right shop and does get rid of static for a night. On the down side it doesn't moisturise hair especially well, it's fiddly to open the tub and only reduces static for a very short period of time. You decide!
Summary: Mediocre
