Advantages: Smells nice, good for your scalp
Disadvantages: Expensive
I love to try lots of new products and see what is new and different and its always good inspiration for a dooyoo review. My husband however is quite the opposite and is very brand loyal once he finds something he likes. For years he used the Paul Mitchell Shampoo One which he bought at the hairdressers. However some years ago he had to have a kidney transplant and one of the many side effects of the drugs he now has to take was skin problems. This manifested itself in acne and also in a very red inflamed and dry scalp. He saw a dermatologist who was able to prescribe antibiotics to clear it up when it flared up but he also wanted something to help make it more manageable in between times. His hairdresser recommended the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special Shampoo which is good at cleansing the hair and scalp of impurities and this is the product he has been using ever since. I don't use it regularly as I feel it is too expensive but when I run out of shampoo or fancy a change I use his tea tree shampoo.
The Bottle
The shampoo comes in a large slim cylindrical white bottle with the trademark Paul Mitchell writing down the side. The lid at the top is green and has a snap open and shut mechanism. It holds 300ml. It states it is for all hair types and is an "invigorating cleanser." It also states that they do not conduct or endorse animal testing.
The Shampoo
It is made with Australian Tea Tree Oil which is well known for its antiseptic healing properties. It also contains a blend of Hawaiian awapuhi (whatever that might be!), chamomile, henna, rosemary, aloe vera, jojoba. The natural ingredients continue with peppermint oil, white ginger extract, lavender oil and wheatgerm oil. The shampoo is a fairly thick pale blue/green colour and has quite a menthol type smell which comes mainly from the peppermint oil and the tea tree oil. I am not really keen on minty smells but I quite like the smell of this shampoo. It smells fresh and is a great way to wake up in the morning. It foams up well on your hair but not to an excessive degree.
Instructions
Basically use as you would any other shampoo, wet your hair, rub some shampoo in your hands and massage it into your hair and scalp then rinse thoroughly.
Where can you buy it?
Paul Mitchell state that the shampoo is only guaranteed when it has been sold by a professional hairdresser. They state that this is because if you buy it elsewhere (and often therefore cheaper) it may in fact be counterfeit, old or tampered with. We buy ours from our hairdresser who stocks it along with many other products in the Paul Mitchell range and who uses Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioner (although not the tea tree one) in the salon. You can buy it online but obviously you then don't have the guarantee that it is genuine or that it is a new product. In the salon we pay around £8 and you can get it online but it's around the same price and is available from online hair care shops and from eBay.
My Thoughts
I like this shampoo, it is very good quality from the design and look of the bottle to the actual shampoo and how it feels on your hair. The smell is lovely, fresh and helps wake you up in the morning. You feel that it is really cleaning your hair and invigorating your scalp. After using it my hair feels clean, soft, bouncy and refreshed. My only criticism of this shampoo is the cost but that is the same criticism I would have of all of the Paul Mitchell range, I feel you are paying mainly for the name. The product is higher quality than many of the high street brands but not enough that you can justify charging £8 amount. However from my husband's point of view he feels this shampoo soothes his scalp and works better than an ordinary shampoo so he feels the price is worth it. I on the other hand will stick to my cheaper shampoos and just use this occasionally when I run out! I think it's good if there is a reason why you want to use the shampoo but otherwise it's really quite expensive for the average person to use on a daily basis.
Summary: A tea tree shampoo that is good for your hair and scalp but is expensive
