Advantages: Pleasant flowery scent
Disadvantages: Very expensive. Makes damp hair so sticky it is hard to comb!
PREFACE
Having suffered greatly in the past two months with yet more computer problems and writers' block, I now return, less than triumphantly, to document the final part of my adventures in Redken land which I know has been eagerly awaited! Having been distinctly underwhelmed by the shampoo and conditioner, I am not sure why I purchased the Carbo-bodyfier especially as it sounds more like a car care essential than a hair product but buy it I did and it was a bad decision!
REDKEN BODY FULL CARBO-BODIFIER
Those who have read previous instalments concerning Redken products will know that Jermaine, my hairdresser, led me into this adventure by tactfully implying that my hair was not in A1 condition. Nobody else would have tempted me to buy a Body Full product as my body is full enough (flippant observation here!) but this is billed as a "volumising foam for baby fine hair" and that is a very accurate description of my lack lustre locks! And so I proceeded to shell out £12.45 to purchase 150mls from feelunique.com and smiled through gritted dentures! Kelcoo price comparisons suggest this was not a bad price as you can pay up to £15 and indicates only one deal (from activebeauty.co.uk at £11.92) is cheaper.
The transparent, green plastic bottle is quite convenient and has the environmental advantage that it is not an aerosol. I followed the instruction to apply a few blobs of foam to my Redken washed, conditioned and towel-dried hair. I always have problems with instructions advising application to the roots first because in a jumble of hair I encounter the ends before digging out the roots - but I tried my best!
It's a move that I soon came to regret but I must mention two positives before enlarging on the negatives of this experience. The Carbo-bodifier goes a long way and by my estimation should give at least twenty applications although, as my calculator informs me this works out at around 62p per application, this is not exactly an economical option. What I liked most was the very pleasant, flowery aroma which was so much more pleasant than the rather chemical whiff of the shampoo and conditioner.
Unfortunately the positives are more than outweighed by the fact that the application of this product to damp hair results in a very sticky mess just as if I had applied a thin coat of glue. After the application, it was very difficult to drag my wide toothed comb through my locks and when I succeeded the comb was coated with some of my hairs. It was quite a painful process. When dry the hair returned to normal and it did have an attractive, shiny and reasonably bouncy appearance but there was no noticeable difference from when I used the shampoo and conditioner alone. Furthermore, when I got caught in the rain, my damp locks once again became sticky and unpleasantly matted so much so that it lost its style once dried and had to be tonged into shape again.
CONCLUSION
Quite simply my excursion into Redken Land was a waste of time and money. Having spent some £35 on the three products (shampoo, conditioner and carbo-bodfier), I am left at best unimpressed, at worst feeling quite cheated. Although I continued with the shampoo and conditioner, for no better reason than I needed to get my money's worth, the carbo-bodifier still rests unused and gathering dust on my dressing table: after four applications I gave up.
I have now purchased some common or garden Herbal Essences Uplifting Volume shampoo at a much more alluring £3.26 for 100 mls. This, together with my cherished Tigi Bedhead Small Talk (reviewed elsewhere and still going strong!), give me great results and leave me with a heavier purse!
And here endeth the saga of my Redken Revolution which unfortunately turned out to be little more than a rather damp squib!
Summary: Really not worth the money
