I started using Redken hair products a couple of years ago when a stylist used their Smooth Down range on my hair at the hairdressers. It made my hair feel so soft and lovely, so I bought the whole range to use at home! I had great success with the shampoo and conditioner, but had to stop using it for a while as it got too expensive! However, this product obviously lasts a lot longer than the shampoo and conditioner and my original bottle is still doing strong.
The Heat Glide is supposed to be a heat protectant, which protects your hair from any heat damage from blowdrying or straightening! I always find it hard to tell if a heat protectant is working because it's kind of a "silent" effect - but my hair is in very good condition, always shiny after washing and styling and I don't suffer anything associated with heat damage like dryness or split ends so I guess it works pretty well!
Though I have to say, I actually prefer this product as a finishing serum rather than a heat protectant so I now use Tresemme Heat Defence and use the Heat Glide as a styling/finishing product instead.
When I apply this after washing and styling, it makes my hair really shiny and healthy looking and gets rid of the freshly washed look and feel.
The only downside of this product really is the price. It's over £15, which seems excessive for a heat protectant when you can buy cheaper brands for under £5, and honestly they do the same job! I do recommend this more as a finishing serum, but again, you can buy cheaper versions for less than a tenner and they more than likely have exactly the same effect.
If you can afford to spend a bit more on your haircare, then I definitely recommend this, but as a normal person who has to budget sometimes, I would say this isn't really worth the price tag unfortunately!!
This product is great. I have quite long, thick hair but just one squirt of Redken Smooth Down Serum is enough to provide total protection from high temperature hair styling products. The serum feels quite greasy on your hands, but it leaves your hair looking shiny, frizz-free and not remotely greasy or oily. It has a very subtle, pleasant aroma which certainly won't interfere with any scents or perfume you're wearing. It is quite pricey but, really, one bottle lasts for absolutely ages. I've literally had mine for years. I don't know whether it's past its use-by date by now, but it's still working as well as ever so I'm happy.
I only don't give it 5 stars because, while it gives perfect protection from hair dryers and straighteners, it doesn't really make my hair look any more sleek or luxurious than usual. That's a minor quibble, though, as I only use it for its heat protection qualities anyway. This really is an essential product, and if you're worried that you're damaging your hair through excessive hair drying/straightening/curling you need worry no more with Redken Smooth Down Serum.
