Just thought I would post something here which might help. I am a single guy of 62 and many younger guys might think that at my age I have no right to have any hair!! Like many guys I suffer with MPB (male pattern baldness). This is hereditary, so if your father lost his hair, the chances are that you will too. I have several younger brothers who have less hair than myself, and one who would be approaching 59 were he still alive, had little by his late 20's.

I heard of Minoxidil many years ago from a report in the press and never did anything about it except to commit to memory. Now there is a product on the market Regaine TM containing Minoxidil which could POSSIBLY help with MPB. I had a read of the box some years ago, and noted that it might not be effective for everyone and that results cannot be guaranteed. This set off alarm bells ringing in my head, because I am sceptical by nature and felt that this was a "cop out". This product was VERY expensive and it would take some time before positive results, if any, would be observed, by which time one would have spent/wasted quite a bit of money.

Although I still have a fair amount of hair left (more than a lot of guys half my age) I still did not feel happy about the loss. I recently typed MPB into that well known search engine starting with "G" and had a read of sites, especially Wikipedia which I found most enlightening. It is really informative re Minoxidil/Regaine. I would suggest that anyone concerned about hair loss view this site as well. To cut a long story short, this product has to be massaged into the hair and thus scalp. Minoxidil is supposed to increase blood flow around the hair follicle stimulating growth. Massage does the same. It got me thinking; so is THIS the reason for hair growth rather than the "active ingredient" and thought of other ways to increase the blood flow within the scalp. I came up with an answer. For the last two months I have used my finger nails to rigorously scratch my scalp several times a day and even use a small round hair styling brush with short hard bristles (available from national chemist chains for under a Fiver; make it with a metal body not wood) to firmly brush the hair and thus scalp stimulating blood flow. Eureka! Hair has started to re-grow in areas where it was thin, even where there was no hair at all; I can feel the spikes of hair growing out within the hair which is still there. Ok, it may be only "downy" in places and a bit to start with, but who knows what the future holds. Other reviews here talk about "treatments" which involve massage.
My conclusion is that by increasing blood flow this way is the best way forward. I probably won't have the full head of hair that I had in my youth (won't see that again even if you gave me a telescope!), but at least it is an encouraging start. I think that products such as Regaine are a total waste of money and there is always someone somewhere prepared to rip the public off by whatever means are available. That old adage is right; "If it seems to be too good to be true, it probably is". Will end on this light note. Many people believe that when a guy goes bald, the hair falls out of his head. Wrong! It falls through his head and comes out of his nose and ears. Good luck to all of you other "follically challenged" guys.

Summary: Don't waste your money. It is better in your bank account than a "Fat cats"
