Advantages: Quick to heat up, smooth ceramic plates that glide through hair easily, good price
Disadvantages: None
I've never been one for spending silly money on hair and beauty products because of the brand name, hence you'll never catch me reviewing GHDs, unless I happen to win a pair in a competition. I like putting effort into my appearance (occasionally!) but when it comes to hair straighteners, I think a good quality brand in a medium price range is more than good enough for me, especially if they're on sale!
I currently have a pair of Remington CS5002 straighteners, bought last year for around £25. I went for these because they look sleek and are ceramic, plus at £25 for a popular and trustworthy brand they seemed like a worthwhile investment when compared to other brands costing upwards of £40.
Remington have several hair straighteners on the market, and I recently bought another set just a couple of weeks ago from Asda (bargain at £15) for my mother. Needless to say she was delighted that she could get rid of the cheap old ones she bought a while ago that took ages to heat up and had cracked within the first few weeks of use.
... Features ...
These come in a neat black box, on which are the details of the straighteners. The key features include:
30 second heat up - These heat up to 210 degrees within 30 seconds, and I can confirm that they are ready to use after a few seconds. They do get very hot, obviously, so it's important to be careful about how often you use them, where you're putting your hands and leaving them during/after use.
Ceramic golden plates - Ceramic plates help protect from damage and evenly spread the heat over your hair.
Red indicator Light - There's a small red light on these to show that they're plugged in. As there's no on or off switch, it's good to have a reminder that they're still on so you don't forget to unplug them!
3M swivel cord - This is a good length for ease of manoeuvrability, so you shouldn't have a problem plugging these in and moving around, moving to sit further away from the socket etc.
... Are they any good? ...
I think these straighteners do just what they claim to on the box. They heat up quickly and are ready to use in 20-30 seconds, but don't leave them on for too long before you use them because they do get extremely hot.
Smoothing these through your hair is effortless as they glide well, but they're designed well so you can push the plates together easily to grip your hair between them.
The overall build of these straighteners is of good quality. Some straighteners, being plastic, can look and feel quite tacky, but these are quite sturdy. I've had no problems with using them, nor have I noticed any faults with them.
The end result is smooth, straight hair, and depending on how long your hair is, the desired results are quick to achieve.
... Overall ...
Fab straighteners at a good price that I would definitely recommend if you want quality, reliability and good results.
(Also available on Amazon for £14.88.)
Summary: A top pair of hair straighteners at a good price that I would definitely recommend :o)
