Advantages: Great price and useful DVD
Disadvantages: Not very good for thick hair
Well for over four years now I have been using GHD hair straighteners. My hair has been getting in increasingly worse condition over the years, due to so much heat styling and colouring.
I had recently decided to only straighten my hair at weekends and for special occasions to limit the amount of heat damage.
I never even considered another set of straighteners because I though GHDs were the absolute best.
I brought a magazine that had a review of all the best straighteners on the market-each were tested and rated on all aspects such as the look, the options they have like heat, automatic turn off, protection for the hair, the size of the plates etc.
The Remington S1041 Sleek and Curl Straightener came out on top, with points ahead of GHDs so I decided to buy some. They are relatively cheap as well.
The benefits of them are that they are Teflon coated ceramic plates, this does feel a bit weird when you straighten your hair because they don’t smooth over it like other ceramic straighteners do but it definitely feels less damaging.
They also have tourmaline and ionic plates, these heat up quicker and reduce the damage that can be caused by the high temperatures; in fact they heat up in 60seconds!
They also have the option to control the heat you use and it ranges from 130 to 200 Celsius. This is particularly good for me because I have relatively straight hair anyway so don’t really need the heat right up. They have a digital screen as well; this means you can always see how hot they are. I find that my fringe doesn’t need as much heat so they are great to turn down a bit before I straighten it.
They also have a long cable of 3m which is handy.
Like GHDs they have rounded plates, this is great if you like to flick out your hair at the edges or if you like to curl your hair with your straighteners.
Since I have used these straighteners my hair is definitely in better condition, however if I want it poker straight I’ll revert back to my GHDs.
I would still suggest using a good protection spray anyway because they will still damage your hair.
I think they are a brilliant buy if you want to keep your hair in tiptop condition. If you like your hair poker straight I might not opt for these.
They would be the perfect option for somebody who wants to try straighteners for the first time because they are relatively cheap (I brought mine for £39.99) and they come with a DVD that teaches you techniques for straightening and curling your hair.
They also came with a heat resistant pouch, which is very useful as I usually just put mine on the floor after using them.
Summary: Great straighteners, especially for a first time user
