Advantages: price, heat mat, temperature control
Disadvantages: none
Having had two pairs of the same (quite expensive) hair straighteners die on me withing 3 months, I needed some new ones, fast and cheaply! I didn't want to pay loads of money, yet having quite thick hair I wanted to ensure that they would actually straighten my hair.
After some searching around I found the Remington Straight in a stroke straighteners, these were cheap as they were on a half price off and I had a gift voucher for the store. I decided that at this price (£17.50) I could get them and if they were no good I wouldn't have lost much.
The straighteners, like nearly all others, have a temperature control. The control on this model is a digital one, allowing you to select the exact temperature you want. On previous straighteners I had used a temperature around 225, I decided to go for 200 on this and it seems a good temperature when straightening hair straight after washing. When straightening hair just to touch it up I use a lower temperature between 140 and 170.
I noticed that some people have complained about changing the temperature when using the straighteners, I haven't had this problem and find that the control buttons are quite sturdy and so don't change just by catching them.
The straighteners claim to make your hair "straight in a stroke". When I bought these I was quite sceptical as previous expensive straighteners I had required each section of hair to have quite a number of strokes. On the first use of these straighteners it took a while to straighten my hair as I was getting used to them, different shape/weight etc to the old ones. However I have found that the claim "straight in a stroke" is pretty accurate.
The straighteners make straightening your hair a quite and easy process.
The straighteners have a temperature range between 140C and 230C, the plates are ceramic diamond with teflon coating. The product comes with a handy travel pouch which also doubles up as a heat map, some sectioning clips and a brush.
A great set of straighteners for those on a low budget - I know people who have ghd's and comment how straight me hair is!!
Summary: good budget straighteners
