Admittedly I don't use curling tongs every day of the week but I use them at least twice a week to add some `bounce` to my otherwise pretty much straight as a dye hair. Horror of horrors I switched my old Babyliss tongs on last week and they had bit the dust, nothing, the indicator light refused to even flicker. Thank goodness the small electrical goods are fairly cheap to replace, but no matter whether I am going to spend £15 or £50 I still like to look around for the best value.



A surf around the Internet assured me that there was plenty of choice, some tongs were far more expensive but came with lots of attachments, I don't really need anything fancy so I was discounting those and only looking at the straightforward curling tongs.
The Amazon website are always a good bet for competitive pricing and among the list I found the Revlon Big Curl Ceramic tongs. The description fitted the bill perfectly, a larger tong to create looser curls and a ceramic coated barrel to protect the hair.
The Amazon price was £14.48, delivered free and dispatched straight away.



True to their word the tongs came within 48 hours. I could see why Revlon had called them `Big curl` tongs, the bronze coloured barrel was quite a bit larger than average, the tip of the barrel was black plastic and had been designed to taper off in line with the handle.
The black plastic handle was plenty long enough to get a good grip and the on/off switch is well placed directly below where you open the tong to prepare for curling.
Plug the tongs in and a small indicator light comes on, as the tongs are heating you can rest them on the integrated metal rest.
The tongs took no time at all to heat but I noticed that they didn't get as hot as my old tongs, maybe that would be kinder and less damaging to the hair anyway, the tongs open smoothly and easily.
The black plastic tip of the barrel is `stay cool` so you can hold on to it as you style if needed and the cord swivels as you move the tongs to different sections of your hair.
To achieve a decent curl/wave I had to keep the tongs in place for a little longer than I would have done with my Babyliss tongs, the Revlon tongs take longer to form a curl due to a lower temperature.
Another thing worth pointing out is that anyone with shorter or finer hair may find the barrel a bit too large, I have enough hair to wind around the larger barrel successfully.



Using the Revlon tongs was simple, I managed to achieve the look that I wanted. I may be tempted to use a styling mousse before I tong the next time, simply because the larger ceramic tong seems to slide away from the hair a little more easily.
All in all £15 well enough spent, after all at that price they have to be good value.
