Review of Sainsburys Basics Shampoo
In line with many other supermarkets, Sainsbury's have their own range of simple, basic products aimed at the budget end of the market. This shampoo is part of their budget range known as 'Basics'.
Presented in a tall recyclable plastic bottle, Sainsbury's Basics Shampoo is a pretty pinkish-peach colour. The bottle contains 1litre of shampoo.
The product is not recommended for any particular hair type, but states it is a family product.
As with all Sainsbury's Basics goods, the packaging and label are a simple no frills style. Direction for use, ingredients and warnings can be located on the reverse of the bottle.
The current price is 62p and there is a matching conditioner in the range.

As with many other 'foaming' products, the lather produced is a good test for me. I live in a hard water area which can effect the efficiency of foaming products. This shampoo lathers very well and rinses out easily, a definite plus in my opinion.
After shampooing, my hair felt clean and fresh, but not particularly soft. I definitely need to use a conditioner in conjunction with Sainsbury's Basics Shampoo.
I have normal hair and I found that this shampoo cleansed my hair satisfactorily. However, my partner has slightly greasy locks and he was not impressed with this shampoo.
The shampoo has a pleasant scent, it is quite difficult to pin point what the shampoo smells of, there is nothing I can actually put my finger on, fragrance wise. The shampoo has a clean, fresh scent, slightly soapy and a little old-fashioned in my view. That said, I doubt many people would be expecting a delicious fragrance from a budget shampoo!
Whilst this is a family product, I feel that this shampoo may be a little harsh for use on young children's hair. My main reason for this opinion is that the ingredients list is huge, I cannot pronounce most of the ingredients, let alone explain what they are and I think I would prefer to use a more natural product for children.
I will not attempt to replicate the ingredients here as I consider it unnecessary review 'padding' and I doubt anyone really wants to read it.
Neither will I insult readers intelligence by telling them how to wash their hair, suffice to say that as with all shampoos this product should not be ingested and users should rinse with plenty of clear water should the product get into their eyes.
I bought this product because it was cheap; and as a cheap shampoo, it is fine. It does the job and cleans your hair, but it is not a product I would go out of my way to buy again.
I would recommend this to anyone on a low budget as it does it's job, but for myself, I would prefer to pay a little more for a better quality shampoo.
Thank you for reading
