Advantages: Cheap, works out economical
Disadvantages: Smell doesn't stick about at all, bottle breaks so easy!
A couple of weeks ago I had my very long black hair completely lopped off into a sassy bob (shorter than jawline). Best thing I've ever done to be honest cos although it was long and quite glossy I do have thin and frizzy hair and the only way I could make it look any good was by taking alot of time and effort over it. I could never comb my hair and go type of thing and I simply wanted something alot more manageable that didn't means hours of styling! Paris Hilton eat your heart out babes! I now have what appears to be thicker hair with natural bounce and I can't stop running my fingers through my hair and I feel like it's took years off me and uplifted what I always thought was a long face!
I wash my hair every-day and we all know this isn't particularly good for us but as a smoker I'm paranoid and I do get greasy roots from time to time and although I've used spray on dry shampoo's and stuff with black hair I can look like my head is caving in with dandruff! Not a good look!
Because my hair is so temperamental I've been trying to take a bit of extra care of it because it looks so nice at the moment and feels so healthy! I purchased a few really nice shampoos and conditioners, oils and intensive treatments and one I decided to try was this kids shampoo when I saw it.
Not just because it's only 57p a bottle (usual price) but because I tried another one of these kids shampoo's from within the Sainbury's range recently and was amazed how brilliant it was, but I was tempted by the promised strawberry fragrance within this. Another thought behind buying it is that 2 in 1 shampoos and conditioners I find don't condition my hair enough on their own however I did think that providing a little conditioning and then using an intensive or a leave in spray conditioner as well may really help nourish my hair without weighing it down!
The Packaging.....
Red, 250ml plastic slightly curvy bottle with a bright yellow flip top lid to the top of it concealing a small hole. On the front of the bottle in black, white and pink writing I'm told it 'Smells out of this world' Sainsbury's Strawberry 2 in 1 Shampoo which is 'kind to eyes and detangling' and there's a rather cute pink picture of some sort of alien creature. On the back of the bottle all in black writing I'm told a bit about the product, directions for use are given, ingredients and safety advice are listed, I'm told Sainsbury's are against animal testing and fund research into alternatives, contact details for Sainsbury's are given, size is stated and finally there is a bar-code on there. Nice, bright packaging but the first time I opened the flip top lid I broke it and it snapped off in my hands!
A Bit About The Product According To The Back Of The Bottle....
Sainsbury's Strawberry 2 in 1 conditioning shampoo has a mild and gentle formula specially developed for you little monsters! Avoid bath time traumas-cleans and de-tangles in one easy step! Leaves hair feeling soft, shiny and smelling Berry-licious! Suitable for all hair types.
Directions For Use....
Wet hair. massage a small amount of shampoo into hair and scalp. Rinse thoroughly, no separate conditioner required.
My Experience Using It....
The shampoo itself is very thin and runny like a gel and is a very light transparent red in colour. Smell wise.. well it's called strawberry and is does smell of sweet, ripe berries but to my nostrils it's more berry in general terms than a strawberry whiffer although it is very pleasant to be fair to it.
Now if I wash relatively clean hair I wash and rinse it through twice, I don't need a lot of the product to get a rich, white foamy lather going on and it rinses out very easily.
If however my hair is a bit greasy/grimy or got hair products in it on the first wash it doesn't foam up very well and you need quite a lot of product but on the second wash it does go foamy simply and stuff making it easier to clean hair.
As I stated at the beginning of this review occasionally I will follow through with a separate conditioner however I don't NEED to all the time. Sure if I use this every-day my hair slightly dries out a bit after say a week of using purely this (but remember I have adult hair! lol) but I can get away with not using conditioner all the time making this a great shampoo for the gym or staying at mates houses without carting around huge bottles!
I like the fragrance though but when I asked my boyfriend does my hair smell of berries he had a squinty look in his eyes and viciously shook his head from side to side looking like I'd asked the most demented question in the world! He said my hair smelt freshly washed but after about an hour of washing it no fragrance was very apparent.
Basically this is a very mild shampoo indeed. Smells pleasant to use, is easy to use and remove and does seems to soften and detangle hair. I would recommend this mild shampoo for children as it's so mild it's gentle near eyes and stuff but there are better fragranced shampoo's from within this range that stick about longer. It's not very strong and if your an adult wanting to use it it doesn't dry out hair, it helps me banish my greasy roots somewhat but remember if you really want a deep cleanse a kids shampoo probably isn't a wise choice anyway!
Only available in Sainsbury's.
Summary: An ok every-day product but it's nothing special

- 30/04/09 Very brave of you, chopping off your hair. Coincidence, but I've booked a haircut for myself tomorrow. Nothing unusual about that except I haven't been to a hairdresser in 10 years! I'm terrified. Excellent review as always, think I'll get this for my kids. |
