Advantages: Straight & Sleek results, Quick and easy to use, Good on all hair types

Disadvantages: Quite expensive, Over-use can damage hair

For years I have bought a variety of hair straighteners, including Babyliss & Braun. All of which have had no desired effect on my hair. In fact, all the Babyliss ones did was warm my hair up a bit. A complete disappointment. I was talking to a friend about this, and she recommended a new pair of hair straighteners from Saks Hair & Beauty Salon. What a wonderful recommendation!!

Saks is a chain of Hair & Beauty salons which are present all over the UK. You can telephone 0845 600 59 59 to find where the nearest salon to you is.

Anyway, to the straighteners!

Saks hair straighteners have long been used by professionals, and are acknowledged as being the best in the business. Celebrity users include Destiny's Child, Geri Halliwell & Atomic Kitten.

Saks hair straighteners use ceramic plates, which means that the heat applied is even, making straightening easier and faster. They come in 3 different sizes, these being as follows:

Micro : £75
Small : £55
Large : £60

I bought the large ones, and can tell you that the ceramic plates are 5.5cm x 10cm which make them perfect for fast and easy styling! These straighteners use 160W & 220 - 240V.

One factor of these straighteners are the fact that they get VERY hot!! When they have reached the heat required, the light on the straighteners clicks off, which is the sign that they're ready for use. During your use of the straighteners you may hear the click/see the light going on and off. Don't worry about this, it's just a sign that the straighteners are maintaining the correct heat. But let me tell you, I've so far burnt my carpet (and my head/arm/neck!!!). The straighteners also have a comb attached to one side. This means that when you are straightening your hair, it is being combed as well, ensuring no knots and a smooth outcome.

When I first tried these straighteners I was amazed by the results, though admittedly, I wouldn
9;t have liked to spend as much time styling everyday as I did this first time. However, as time passed, and I'd got more used to using them, styling doesn't take me anymore than 10 minutes. The first time I used them I straightened my hair section by section. However, now I just straighten each side, and then the back, by running them over the hair all at once. Absolutely no need to part your hair into loads of sections!! And I must point out here that I have very thick hair, so there's no worries there!!

My hair is also more or less straight anyway, but the straighteners thin it out, and give it a more smooth and sleek appearance. Having said this, I have seen these straighteners being used on very curly & frizzy hair, and the same result is seen! My hair is even just as straight the next morning!

The only bad thing that I have to say about these straighteners, which is not necessarilly their fault, is the fact that they can become very addictive! Having seen your hair looking so good, you just can't the way it used to be. And so the cycle begins. You soon begin to straighten your hair every morning. But then, you may decide that you'll just leave it natural for one day, only to find that your hair is much worse than it originally was! This is due to the intense heat, damaging and breaking your hair. I suddenly found that my hair was full of split ends, and needed a good cut! On my visit to the hairdressers, I was told to lightly apply hairspray to the hair I was about to straighten, as it would provide a layer of protection and therefore my hair would not be as prone to damage. Another advantage to this is that if your hair gets wet during the day it does stay straight! However if you visit a Saks salon they do have their own tips and products to help with this problem.

To conclude, I couldn't live without them, and all my friends who have ever borrowed them, have ended up buying a pair!!!

Good op. Weird that those with curly hair straighten while those with straight, perm!

You might like to try some special hair straightening iron oil for protection on your hair. It's probably also a good idea to try not to use them more than twice a week.

Still, having awful frizzy hair myself, I know just how addictive lovely sleek hair is! ;-)
