Advantages: tames frizz for a while

Disadvantages: results don't last long, need to use loads per use, cheap looking bottle

I had never heard of the Samy brand until I was placing an order on Superdrug's website about a month or so ago. The products were on special offer and I decided to give their anti-frizz serum a go, seeing as I use hair serum on a regular basis, and at the time, it was available for a very reasonable price.

I initially thought that this was a Superdrug own brand, but a bit of research (if typing the word 'Samy' into google counts as research) tells me that this is in fact an American brand, and Samy is an 'Internationally acclaimed Guru of Hairstyling.' Wow.

The serum comes in a plastic box, and inside is the bottle which is a deep pink colour with a silver coloured pump. To be honest, I thought the plastic of the bottle looked a little cheap when I first took it out. The last serum I used was by Mark Hill and the packaging of that one is far superior to this one, despite being around the same price.

If you're not familiar hair serum is a product which you run through your hair to smooth away any frizz and give a glossy sheen at the same time.

The serum itself is a nice consistency - it's not runny like some of the cheaper ones tend to be, but it's not too thick either. I think the consistency is quite an important thing when it comes to hair serum, as unless it's just right, it can cause the hair to look greasy and lank.

The serum has a slightly fruity scent, but it's very subtle and you can only smell it when you get close up. Once it's actually on my hair I don't notice the scent at all.

It runs through the hair easily and adds a glossy sheen, however I have found that I need to use quite a lot to tame the frizz on my hair. My hair does get quite frizzy, but usually one or two squirts of serum is enough to sort it out. With this one however I am using absolutely loads each use, and I still find that I get a mild frizz after an hour or so, which is really disappointing. Another downside to having to apply a lot of this, is that it can sometimes make my hair look a little bit greasy.

The serum costs £4.89 for a 50ml bottle and is available from Superdrug or www.superdrug.com. Whilst this is a pretty reasonable price for a serum, it's not very economical as you have to use a lot, and there are much better serums around for the same price.

So in conclusion, I am really let down by the internationally acclaimed guru of hairstyling's serum, and I don't think I would buy it again. Sorry guru Samy.

Summary: I'm not impresssed

SO many anti-frizz products are disappointing - I haven't found a serum yet that has much effect and doesn't leave my hair sticky. The best solution I've found is glass ceramic straightening irons, which makes it shiny and less frizzy, but of course you then have heat damage to worry about!
