Advantages: Smell
Disadvantages: Doesn't make hair shiny or supple
Schwarzkopf Gliss Shine Tonic is a spray that claims it will leave hair both "brilliantly shiny" and "noticeably more supple." As my hair is neither particularly shiny or supple I thought this product could be a useful addition to my rather small and pathetic haircare collection. I bought the Shine Tonic from a local discount shop for around £1 but I believe it can also be purchased in Boots although I am unable to find a price. The product comes in a 100ml aerosol can and I bought mine from a local discount shop for around £1 but I believe it can also be purchased in Boots although I am unable to find a price.
The Shine Tonic is very simple to use and as all you are required to do is spray it onto your hair after washing, drying and styling etc. However, the back of the can also mentions the product can be sprayed onto towel-dried hair if you want "extra care" though I've never used it in this manner.
In my opinion, the best part of the spray is the smell which is very light and leaves hair smelling great. The product is not heavily perfumed with a specific "fruity" flavour but it does have a mildly fragrant scent which I find very pleasant. I felt that it made my hair smell "clean."
In terms of texture the Shine Tonic, happily, does not leave hair sticky and straw like as other products can do. That said, it most certainly does not live up to its promise of "noticeably more supple" hair as I can confidently say the texture of my locks did not change in the slightest.
Now onto the shine factor which I have to say was the products most disappointing feature. A luscious, shiny mane is what I was expecting but, unfortunately for me, an almost greasy looking mop was what I got. I'm not saying it looked as though I had emptied a chip pan over my head but it certainly did appear as though I'd forgotten to wash my hair that day. If you already have fairly greasy hair then this spray is definitely not for you as it will add to your problems rather than reduce them.
It's fairly unlikely that I will buy this product again as, disregarding the nice smell, it didn't do the job it was supposed to. However, I may use it occasionally just for the smell which I really do find strangely alluring. If you are going to use it I'd advise using only a little to avoid the greasy hair look. Gliss Shine Tonic isn't a spray I would recommend as it simply doesn't perform to the standards I expect from a Schwarzkopf product.
Summary: A poorly performing product.
