Advantages: Hair left feeling soft and not damaged.

Disadvantages: Bright colours don't last that long, fades quite quickly.

I only started dying my hair about a year ago, and have had quite a few disasters since then, most of them to do with this brand!

My hair is naturally a medium brown colour, and I've experiment with all sorts; red, purple, black, blonde and blue, all of which were the Schwarzkopf Live make.

~ The Product ~

It comes in a blue box with a picture of a man and woman on the front, there are also pictures of what the dye will do to your hair (hair before dying and after), so that you can find the colour closest to yours and see what the results would be like.

Inside you get the sachet of colour, a bottle with a solution in, and a conditioner for afterwards.

It recommends doing a patch test 24 hours in advance to dying your hair completely, but I didn't. However it is definitely best to do so beforehand if you think you might be allergic to any of the ingredients.

~ Dying my hair ~

I usually get my mum to do it, but she was busy and refused to do it for me, so I had to do it myself.

I've got really thick hair so always have to use two lots hair dyes to make sure I have enough dye to cover it all. I've made that mistake of not having enough dye before, and ended up wearing hats and big sunglasses until I could get it fixed!

So I made sure I had enough, and cut open the top of the sachets and squeezed it into the bottle. I then shook it until they were totally mixed.

I split my hair into sections and applied the dye from the roots first like you're supposed to do, covering it completely.

I waited for the correct time (depends on whether it's the first time or it's just a touch up), then washed it off. This took forever! My head was hanging over the edge of the bath for a good 10 to 15 before the water ran remotely clear. I then applied the conditioner that came with it, this smells gorgeous, sort of orangey, but not too overpowering :)
I left it in my hair for a few minutes then washed this off too, this again, took quite a while to wash out.

~ Results ~

First of all, the colour wasn't exactly like it was on the box, but it never ends up like that does it, no matter what brand you use! My hair was left soft and smelt really nice, and (for once) there wasn't any patches that I missed :p

~ Conclusion ~

The colour didn't last very long in my opinion. Every time I washed my hair afterwards, even with colour protect shampoo and conditioner, there would be a lot of colour left in the bath/shower ...
The red one is the worst, I found that this colour lasted around a week before it would start to go orange!
The black one is good, but doesn't stay vibrant black for very long, as it soon turns to dark brown.

I tried the bright blonde range (as I wanted to make my hair lighter so that the purple I used afterwards would be brighter), but this was a huge mistake! My hair was not only bright blonde, but ginger, brown, red and dirty blonde! It looked beyond awful!

Overall, this product is good if you're after a bright colour and don't want it to last THAT long, as it soon fades, even though it's supposed to be permanent.

~ Other information ~

It's available from most supermarkets, but the colours available do vary from place to place.

It costs around £4.69 from Boots, so isn't too expensive.

Summary: Good if you're after a semi permenant bright colour, good for more natural looking colours.
