Advantages: Cheap and good range of colours

Disadvantages: Messy and may ruin your towels

Having naturally mousey blonde hair but jet black eyebrows I have been dying my hair since I can remember. I've experimented with lots of different shades of red/purple/brown/black but was finally happy with the colour I got at my local Saks hairdressers. I have black underneath and alternate with red or purple on top. Unfortunately I couldnt get an appointment on any of my days off for the next few weeks so rather than put up with inch long blonde roots I decided to try a home dye as a temporary measure.

As I like quite dramatic colours I was limited to what brands I could use, Live by Schwarzkopf seemed to be the only one who offered a purple or red. I chose the shade 42 Mystic Red and after reading the instructions I applied....then washed out...the results were quite good.

I have to say I prefer getting it done at a salon, less messy, doesnt ruin your own towels and doesnt make your bath look like a murder scene. The colour is similar to what I have done at the hairdressers, obviously I couldnt section bits off to dye it black underneath, but luckily this showed through the red, so left me with a similar look. My hair was left shiny and smooth, it did have quite a strong smell of dye which lasted for a couple of washes but this is to be expected.

The price is definately a perk, i would expect to pay £30 for 2 colours at the hairdressers and this dye was on offer at Boots for less than £4. Bargain!!

I would alternate using this dye and going to the hairdressers to save myself some money or like this time when its hard getting an appointment, but I think due to me having two colours I wouldnt be able to ditch the professional help altogether.

In the box you get some plastic gloves, instructions, colour creme, accelerator and conditioner. Make sure you read the instruictions as they are different for all brands of dye!!!
