Advantages: A fantastic choice of vibrant colours, Very cheap, Covers grey hairs

Disadvantages: None

It's that time of my life again, it happens to me every couple of years, it time for a drastic change in my appearance. The last time I got the urge to have a drastic change I got my nose pierced (yep I do these strange things from time to time) but this time to save embarrassment of sitting on the bus with blue marker pen peering out of my nose stud I decided to dye my hair.

Oh you may think that's not so drastic, perhaps not but I did indeed go for an hair dye that had a choice of vibrant and daring colours, that stood out from the usual colours that were around when my Gran was a teenager.

Well after browsing the shelf, I found one colour that really took my fancy 'Darkest Violet' from the Schwarzkopf Live Unlimited Colours range (well purple is my favourite colours and this is the closest to purple that I have ever come across).

Oh! but silly me was looking at the non-permanent range. Panic riddled my body as I look and look, oh surely they must have something more permanent, what a fool it was starring at me all the time on this huge display shelf! Doh!

Price:
------
I found the price really good value at the cost of £3.99 compared to the RRP of £5.99 and other brands that average the cost of £4.99. The non-permanent hairs dyes from the same range in the same colours would cost a fraction of the price at £2.99 each.

Colour range:
-------------
They have a fantastic array of colours ranging from blonde shades, orange's, red's, violet's (my chosen shade) and even blue (which I think will be the next colour that I will try). All the colours really stand out compared to the usual brands as they are so vibrant with a statement to make.

Suitability to hair types:
--------------------------
Live colour is suitable for all types of hair conditions and you should find a colour out of the range that can be used on your own shade and colour of hair. Say
ing that if you have permed hair then they do state that the colour result would be more intense because it is more likely to be porous so more colour would be absorbed for this they recommend you reduce the time that the colour is on your hair. If you have or are bout to get your hair permed then they suggest not to use the product, but then you could always wait a few weeks. If you have bleached hair then they suggest that you contact the Consumer Advisory to find out how to get the best results.

Other types:
------------
Each colour from the range is available in non-permanent (washes out in 6-8 washes) priced £2.99.

Semi-permanent that can last up to 24 washes not sure of the price as the chemist didn't stock it at the time but would say it would be somewhere in the middle of £2.99 and £3.99.

Application:
------------
I have to say that this has been a really easy product to apply with the whole process over in just a few steps.

To start with make sure you have covered your clothes with an old worn out towel that you don't mind making a mess over, or as I did wore an old black t-shirt.

Dampen your hair but not wet it and then give it a good towel drying.

At this point I recommend that you give your hair a good brushing as it makes applying the hair dye easier.

---------------------

In your box you will find two bottles that need to be joined and mixed.

One being a glass bottle that you need to unscrew the lid and remove, after that is done screw it into the other more flexible applicator bottle. Once you have done that you then need to shake the bottle really well, it is then ready for immediate use.

----------------------

Un-screw the nozzle on the bottle and apply evenly to your hair from root to tips. Then once you have all you hair covered it then must be left for 20-30 minutes depending on the desired
intensity. Some shades such as blondes shades needs to be on that little longer time of 30-45 minutes.

After you have left the hair dye on for the required amount of time you then need to rinse. Firstly add a little water to your hair and work it into a lather then rinse till the water runs clear. I have very long thick hair and the rinse process took me around 10 minutes.

Add the Live colour conditioner into your hair whilst wet or damp and leave for a couple of minutes then rinse out.

That's it how much more simple could it be!

----------------------

Colour likeness and coverage:
----------------
As I said the colour I choose was Darkest Violet which is suitable for light brown or medium brown.

*All colours cover grey at the same time too*

My hair colour is dark brown so I wasn't expecting it to be as effective as shown on the box. What I did get was a more plum in colour but in the sunlight the colour likeness was very close and I have to say that I was well impressed.

I did at first buy only one box which did cover most of my hair which is very long and further than half way down my back. After reading the box it does state that if you have thick or long hair then they recommend that you use two packs and that results will be more subtle on darker shades.

Conclusion:
-----------
If you are looking for some fresh and vibrant colours then you won't go far wrong with this one. They have a huge selection of colours, that is suitable for both the young and the older generation. The condition that it leaves your hair in is remarkable and adds a new definition to your hair.

Go on try it and if you are not so sure try the non-permanent before you decide to commit to another colour.

Hmmm, I'm in the wrong place like Dave.
Just shows what an irresistable title can do...

Great Op - we had those Live! colours for a while in Switzerland before they introduced them here, and I must say they are my favourites :-)

I'm a bottled redhead so I've been through a lot of dyes in the past 6 or 7 years, and these are definitely the best - ever! I find it a shame that the main bottle is glass though - you just can't squeeze the last bits out properly!

Have to agree with belsmum about the blue though - I tried it 2 years ago and without direct sunlight it looked very much like my original darkish brown colour (I bleach every other time I do my hair so it should've turned out more blue than it did!).

Stay away from the Jerome Russell B funky range though - I tried the B red a few weeks back and it barely stayed on my hair! It's non-ammonia but I've had very vibrant results with 'Directions' tubs so I expected much more!
