I bought this over a year ago now via ebay for around £7.00. I have seen it in some of the bigger chain pharmacies like Boots and Superdrug and have also seen it online, although the price varies vastly from £5.50 to £13.00. This seems a lot for the very small 10g , however as you only need a very very small amount of this product on each application I think it is very good value - a little goes a long way (I use this on almost a daily basis and am still on bottle numero uno).
*So what is it?*
Dust it is a mattifying powder that uses silicia powder to give dry hair a dry hold. The dry hold then enables you to style your hair in the way you would like so it is suitable for those with short, mid and long hair lengths. It is a light hold product, scoring number 1 out of 3 on the scale (with 3 giving the maximum hold).
I have quite fine shoulder length hair which can get quite greasy, especially as I prefer to wash it only every 2/3 days. I use this product for three main reasons -
To give volume
To dry out hair and remove grease
To help in styling, particularly in backcombing
*Instructions for use*
There are two ways in which you can use this product. By shaking onto your hand and using in this way or applying directly to the root. I use the second method most frequently but also use the first method if I am using it to style my hair.
After unscrewing the lid you will see that the top of the bottle is like a salt and pepper shaker as in there are lots of holes on the top. To avoid too much of the powder coming out at the same time I cover some of these holes before shaking onto my hands. I then run my hands through my hair to give it that stiffness for styling, concentrating on the roots. The downside to this method is the powder does tend to make your hands very sticky this way!
This is where I tap the bottle very closely to the roots, paying attention to the crown. I then rub into the roots lightly to avoid any white powder marks being left in the hair. This is definitely my preferred method as it is more precise and you don't waste any powder.
This powder gives a definite matte finish to the hair (so if you want shininess this isn't for you). The powder gives volume but is not too sticky or heavy. I have also started to use it as a way of reducing the amount of backcombing I do as it helps you give height to your hair without all the combing that can be so unhealthy and lead to hair breakage.
*Good points v bad points*
I am really pleased with the results, as this powder gives volume and makes styling much easier.
I also like the cute little bottle which can you can take out with you.
The price is fair for what you get, as a little of this goes a long way.
Only lasts a few hours before you need to reapply
Can cause product build up in hair, so if using on a regular basis I would recommend using a good clarifying cleanser.
For the darker haired amongst us can show up in hair if not blended properly, as it is a white powder.
Application can be uncomfortable - the powder is like talc in consistency and doesn't have a pleasant smell - ie can be a bit choking if you use too much.
Definitely - despite the minor gripes as this powder is easy and quick to apply and gives the results I want. One dooyoo star removed however due to the minor gripes discussed above.
I have to say this is one of the best hair care products that I own and could not be without. It comes in a light, small compact container, great for bringing on trips or on holidays.
For the price of this product, it may seem on the outset that you aren't getting a lot for your money but with this product a little goes a long way. When using it it is best to give it a small tap with your finger so it comes out in small even bursts. You have to be careful as using too much can make your hair almost difficult to handle, depending on how much styling you want to do of course, so add a little at a time to get the right amount for you.
I have used this when my hair was long and now that it is short and it has it's advantages for both. A small amount scrunched into your roots means that you can get lots of volume into it, especially with shorter hair. When my hair was long I found it better for putting in and keeping a quiff in place or any other up style that you like.
I think one of the best qualities of dust it is just how long it stays in your hair. I would use it straight after washing my hair and don't need to put any more in until after my next wash, which is usually 2 days. However, the drawback of this is, it isn't like hairspray were you can brush it out easily, it really does need to be washed out. I also found with longer hair if you put a lot in it would take 2 washes to get it completely out and back to normal, however using a little less can change this, again it is about getting whats right for you and your style so initially there can be a bit of trial and error.
The one drawback of Dust It, is after you put it in, and then brushing can cause your hair to go quite static. This is possibly because I have fine hair but I always apply once my hair is just ready to be styled, after all the brushing, combing and drying has been done.
All in all, I wouldn't be without it!
The magic of Dust It was recommended to me by my hairdresser. She created a beautiful side bun in my hair for my prom, and she used the Dust It to help hold it in place and create a little texture and volume in my hair. I loved the look the product gave so much that I decided to buy this from Sally's for around £12 - £13. You can buy it from a variety of online websites and the price ranges from £7 - £10, depending on which website you purchase from.
The dust comes in a miniature, bulb-shaped red tub, with a screw on/off lid at the top. One thing I love about this product is that it's small and compact, and can be put into a bag and used when needed. I also love how easy the product is to apply. You just screw off the lid and lightly shake the bottle, the product comes out tiny holes in the top of the container. It's really easy to use and a funky little bottle.
The dust is a white, light weight powder which smells pleasant and is slightly sticky to touch. The product also lasts forever as only a tiny amount is needed for each application. I bought this last summer and I still have it now, even after all my friends using it for nights out.
There are a few ways you can use this product. Firstly, you can tease the hair first then apply. My hairdresser used this method. She teased/backcombed the hair at the crown and fringe and used this dust to set it. You can also apply then lightly tease or massage into the hair, to give it more of a natural, bedhead hair. This product is particularly good for people with long hair. I have naturally straight long hair and find that it can become rather lifeless and dull looking, but this product injects life into my hair. It also helps to maintain poofs/quiffs in the hair. I sometimes use this look for nights out with friends, and find that it maintains the height of my poof the whole night, so I don't have to worry about readjusting. Again, it also gives a great texture to the hair, particularly when the hair is curly or wavy. A small amount of the dust should be used for each style, or it leaves hair looking slightly greasy!
It's a versatile product and can be used in the hair for any occasion. However, rain should be avoided when wearing this product as it can transform your hair from volumized and full of life, to very greasy and insanely sticky. Not good! The white powder blends into the colour of your hair, so no need to worry about that. I've found that it also works in a variety of different hair types. My sis has thick, thick hair and works just as well, if not better, than in thin hair like mine. It also works really well in short hair to maintain volume and texture as my friend also uses this product and also highly recommends it.
The only downside to this product is that in order to get it out of the hair, the hair has to be shampooed numerous times, or it leaves the hair feeling sticky and matted. Other than that, this product is really an essential and I would definitely recommend it.
Schwarzkopf Osis Dust It Mattifying Powder
I bought a pot of this Schwarzkopf Osis Dust It Mattifying Powder in a salon a year or so ago after my hairdresser used to style my newly cut and coloured hair. I was so impressed she tempted me to buy a pot of it as a wee treat.
Schwarzkopf is a German born company that is now 111 years old. It was started in Berlin by Hans Schwarzkopf who ran a drugs store and is now one of the strongest umbrella brands of Henkel. They produce a large range of hair products including hair styling, colouring and care.
Osis Dust It Mattifying Powder
The Osis dust it mattifying powder comes in a very cute little red pot, it is modelled as a little salt shaker I believe. The writing on the pot is a silver colour and the pot has all the ingredients and instructions for use written across it. The product has a screw on and off cap that is ribbed for grip. Under the cap is the novelty factor - little holes for the dust to be shaken out of, it is very funky.
The powder is a light and fine residue that is slightly sticky to touch and is white in colour, so make sure you rub it in properly or else you may be recommended Head and Shoulders! The product is designed to be both a hair volume booster and a styling product - so it is very versatile.
To use the product you can either directly sprinkle the dust onto the top of your scalp, though not too much as you only need a fine covering of the dust. Or you can sprinkle a small amount of the dust into your hands, rub together and run the dust through your hair. It is best used on dry hair.
Once applied you can work the dust into your roots and lift your hair to give it the volume that you require. I was very impressed as my hair is naturally flat and straight and it makes giving it a bit of oomph so simple. The product is dry and sort of reacts when compressed or massaged into your hair giving it the hold that it needs for both volume and styling. You can also rub some powder down strands of your hair to give more definition to your locks.
I really like the fact that this product is a 'dry' styling tool, I have relatively fine hair and it can look greasy with certain products, but this (when used in moderation) is really good for fine hair styling. Obviously too much of this will create a clumped and heavy feeling to your hair, but the salt shaker design prevents using too much of this at a time.
This product is available in salons and also on the high street and online. A pot of 10 g costs about £7, but as I have said a little dusting goes a long way and mine has lasted very well. All in all I am very impressed with my little styling pot and would highly recommend it.
I bought Osis powder for your hair under the recommendation of one of my close girlfriends, who is a hairdresser and sells it in her salon, I have heard lots of good reviews of it, so I figured why not give it a go.
I have quite long hair with some choppy layers and a fringe and I have found that using Osis is a great way to add a little bit of volume and texture to my hair instead of backcombing and using lots of hairspray (which I used to do, and basically damages your hair a lot).
Osis is a powder for your hair that is designed to be applied lightly at the roots in order to boost volume. To apply the powder I sprinkle a little bit of it on the roots of my hair, and then tease with my fingers to give it volume. I have found it really easy to use and the results are great.
I find that my hair is much more manageable and easier to style when I have used Osis which is great for me because I am not very good at styling hair and don't have a lot of patience to sit and style it for a long time, it also gives your hair a nice shine.
However, sometimes it can be easy to 'over dust' your hair with it and this can make it feel greasy and lead to you needing to wash and re do your hair again.
Also sometimes I find that Osis makes your hair feel greasier quicker than if you were to use nothing in your hair (especially if you have overused it), however I usually expect this when I use products like Osis, I find I need to wash my hair every 2 days when I use Osis as opposed to every 3 days.
The results of Osis last quite a long time, it definitely passes the nightclub test and my hair keeps it volume even on gig nights when you find yourself almost stuck to the dance floor a night. I don't really use this product daily, I like to keep it for special occasions when I am dressing up to go out or to dinner, just when I am putting in that extra effort really.
I bought my Osis in Sallys Salon services, it costs around £8 for a 10g bottle, but a bottle lasts ages, I have had my bottle for 9 months and the bottle is just coming to an end and I definitely plan to buy more when it runs out (though I may try the new Schwarzkopf Got2b Powderful range which is apparently also great and quite similar to Osis).
Overall I think that this is a really great buy, it works well and is good value as a bottle has lasted me ages. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who finds it hard to get volume that last into their hair and overall I would give Osis 4 out of 5 stars.

Every woman dreams of thick volumised but easily styleable hair. So, of course, my hair will never do what I tell it to, and I've tried numerous hair products, most of which haven't worked or just made my hair flat. So when I heard about Dust It from Schwarzkopf, there was no question about it - I had to give it a try!
The bottle is red, circular and widens out at the bottom. This strange design actually helps you to hold it in the middle, and unscrew the shallow top easily. Aside from the logo printed in silver, the bottle is opaque and you can't see the powder through anywhere else but the transparent salt shaker like dispenser underneath the lid. This dispenser is really handy because you can get a good amount out without wasting loads.
The dust is quite sticky so I rub in between my fingers to warm t and made it more versatile. You can rub it in at the roots to give instant volume or at the ends to create a textured, spiky look - the possibilities are endless! I use it throughout all of my hair and this makes it very easy to style whilst giving volume and texture to my hair. Just be careful not to use too much, as it can make hair look a bit greasy if too much product is used. The small bottle is actually very surprising because it lasts about a month, even when used regularly.
I bought this for £10, and I would happily pay this again for such an amazing product! The use you get out of it and the high quality makes me think this is more than a reasonable price!
This is a great miracle powder that texturises, volumises and gives hair that is easy to work with. For the price and the amount of use you get from one bottle, I would definitely say this is a must buy!
Myself and my mum use this as my sister is a hairdresser and swears by the stuff!!! you only need a tiny little bit as it can make your hair appear slightly matted if you put too much on!!!
My hair is quite limp and thin so this stuff was fab when i realised what it does, you simply shake a tiny bit on your fingers then fluff up your roots and it creates volume and the look of thicker hair. Its good value for money too as my tiny bottle lasted ages.
However it Can make your hair appear quite matted and slightly dry if you put too much in though so go easy with it!!!Also works great if you have put your hair in rollers for a night out and want the added vava voom!!!I think its a great product and easy to use and reasonable in price.
Priding myself on big and wavy hair (and it seems to have come bak in fashion now to!) I had tried about a million different products that will actually keep the hair big all day and not go flat after an hour or so. I have got A LOT of hair it needs adding, so the weight of it beats most products. But this is just amazing!
Its basically like baby powder and you dust it on near your roots and ruffle it round a bit with your fingers and voila! instant volume! It lasts for hours and you can re-do your hair and it will still keep on working.
It does feel a bit "weird" and funny before you get used to it, and I would recommend washing your hair every 2 days, because once you have powdered your hair twice its very difficult to make it look alright a third time without getting rid of the old powder. But the result and the way your hair will look is just fabulous, I let my mum try it and she has now bought her own!
Be careful not to put to much on, you see the first results and think "wow" and put a bit more on, just to be sure - dont! if you put to much on the hair will sort of "collapse" and you have to go wash it and start all over again. So add a little bit at the time :)
Although its small size - it lasts for a month if you use it regulary!
I was recommended this product by a friend after complaining about my flat dull straight hair. I was not very optimistic, I had used volumising products in the past but nothing seemed to work.
The packaging of the product is very basic, the item is very small it looks like a sample size you might get on a cosmetic counter. Despite the size, the item is very long lasting as you only need a very small amount for it to work, I have had mine for about 5 months and am only just running out, I do not use it every day though, maybe 2-3 times a week when I can be bothered to make an effort.
Although i was previously quite pessimistic, I love the product! I apply it after I have blow dried and straightened my hair. I apply the powder by shaking it onto my roots, i usually tip my head upside down to do the back then lift up my hair either side of my part-in to apply. The product should only be applied to the roots (in my opinion), as if applied to the rest of your hair it can ruin the effects of the straighteners and start to look cakey (as if you have sprayed too much hairspray into it). Once I have sprinkled the powder onto my roots I usually rub it in with my hands until I can no longer see the powder.
The effects of the product are brillliant it allows me to have straight hair but with volume at the roots....something which I was never able to achieve before. If I want my hair to be particularly big, I back comb some of my roots with a nit comb, then apply the powder...I find that this helps the product to last longer in the hair. If you have applied too much of the powder, it is easy to just brush out and apply it again, although it can make your hair quite knotty and hard to comb.
I have given the item 4 stars, it is a great product and does exactly what it is supposed to, however it can make hair too cakey if too much is applied & the packaging could look better. I think once you have experimented with the product you find out how it works for you and how much to apply. I am a definite fan.
(I get mine off amazon / ebay - seems to be cheapest)
For many years i faced the problem of how to find the compromise between straight, flat, dull hair that came with straightening, and the big, curly, out of hand, hair that god graced me with. It wasn't until i was having my usual hair cut that i was presented with the miracle in a bottle that is, Schwarzkopf's Osis Dust It Mattifying Powder. I was listening to the stylists usual recommendations of what products I might like to purchase (like i didn't know they were earning commission!) and due to her good nature and talent when it came to styling hair, i decided to grace her efforts with a purchase. Little did i know she was doing me the biggest of favour! She directed me how to use it and I left the salon, £12 extra out of pocket, but willing to keep an open mind about the product, 'it might work, right?' I threw the small bottle into my hair products drawer when I got home and forgot all about it. It wasn't until i was preparing for a wedding i was attending, around a week later, frantically trying to tackle my hair, as always, and tame it into a style that wasn't too out of control but at the same time, maintaining a bit of volume, that the little bottle popped back into my mind. I dug it out, and gave it a go. Starting with the straightener, i straightened my hair all over and was left with the usual flat against my face, dull, lifeless drag of hair that i always ended up with. I did as the stylist had instructed, flipping my hair over to one side, and sprinkling the light powder around the roots on both sides of my head. Bending over and flipping my hair over my head, I proceeded to ruffle my hair around the roots until i could feel the powder thinning and spreading. Flipping my head back up, I was astonished. My hair was still straight as I'd expected, but no longer hung limply around my face. It was full of volume and so shapely it looked like i'd had it professionally styled! I've never looked back and no longer is it hidden away in a draw, but positioned with my other favourite beauty products on my dresser. I give this product 4 stars since, as much as i love it, i do find that with even a small sprinkle too many, my hair can become a bit tacky, but this is easily forgiven when the effects are considered. Highly recommended for naturally volumised looking hair! Thank you Schwarzkopf!
If you are fed up of having limp and lifeless hair and have been searching for a product to give you volume, shape and texture, then search no more because this is it. Schwarzkopf Osis Dust It Mattifying Powder.
There are two reasons that you may not have already heard of this little gem. Firstly, it has not been made that widely available and can usually only be found at hairdressers or online sites such Ebay or Amazon. Secondly if you're looking for a volumizing product, then the name of this magical dust doesn't give you much of a clue. If they would only change the name to Volumizing powder, they would sell a bucket load!
Dust it comes in a red tub that looks extremely small for around £10s worth but the amount needed each time is tiny so it will last you ages. The powder is pure white and looks like talcum powder which can be a bit scary if you are applying to brown hair like mine but as long as you don't go wild with it, then you will be fine. It is suitable for all hair types.
So what does this magic powder do? Well Dust It is certainly not a one trick pony!
It will give you amazing root volume in your hair. Dust It is an innovative powder consistency that can be applied direct to the hair or rubbed through with your hands. After carefully lifting a layer of your dried hair, you sprinkle the dust directly onto the roots and then rub it in. You will be shocked at the immediate difference. Depending upon how many layers you rub this into, you can control how big your hair goes.
You can aim as high as you like with this stuff. If you are aiming for massive, then you can tip your head upside down and distribute it throughout the roots. The best part about this product is you don't need to reapply it. If your hair begins to go flat, you rub the roots with your fingers again and hey presto the volume is back.
It also acts a dry shampoo when you don't have time to wash your hair. The powder will absorb any grease, giving it a matt appearance with a defined texture and separates each strand. There's no need to mess around with other products such as gels, mousses or hairsprays, this ticks all the boxes. Dust It doesn't affect the natural movement of your hair and provides light natural style control. To use the powder for this purpose, sprinkle a very small amount of powder into your palms and rub them together. Then rake your hands through your dry hair and lift into style for a matt finish and natural touch. For an extra matt look, it can be applied to wet hair.
This little pot of magic will also come in useful when creating hair styles that are pinned up. It will instantly give fine, limp hair volume and texture that is necessary when styling hair up, giving a grip to the hair without the need for backcombing.
The only downfall with this product is that although you may look great, you may not feel it. It almost feels like you've got sand in your roots and can get itchy after a while. You won't be able to brush your hair comfortably while wearing it and I can't use it every day because it can become irritating.
Despite those problems, I think this product is well worth buying. It is so versatile and not overpriced. There are similar products available from some high street stores but they don't come close to this. If you want to look amazing for a special occasion or cut back on how often you wash your hair, then this is the product for you.
Osis Dust It Mattifying Powder
Usually around £11.29 from Sallys but you can buy it cheaper on Ebay. Think I got it for around £5. Sally Services are actually doing a deal at the moment where they are selling it for £5.64. But this ends 09/06/2010 so get there quick on www.sallyexpress.com. To be honest I do think its a little expensive for hair product so don't think I would actually buy it at £11 but definitely worth it for £5.
I first tried this product when I was at my hardressers. She is totally obssesed with this powder and recommended me to buy it. When she applied it to my hair and made it really volumised so thought I would purchase it as well. The product is a small 10g powder that comes is a little red plastic tub. At first I didn't think there was much in the tub but when you actually start to use it you realise you don't need a lot so will last a long time.
To apply the instructions suggests you to sprinkle a small amount of powder on your hands and rub together. However, I think you get the best effect when you apply it directly to the roots and this is where I need it most to boost and make some volume. I mainly apply the powder by sprinkle a little on the crown of my head. You don't need a lot as it goes a long way. Its a mattifying powder as well so if you do put a lot on your hair can feel really horrible. However, on the upside you can use this on in-between wash days as a sort of dry shampoo as it gets rid of all the grease. This can be used on either straight hair to create a bit more volume or on curly hair to make it bigger and bouncier. As the powder is quite expensive I do only tend to use it when i'm going out. Also good cause my hair always seems to be a mess by the end of the night so this sort of control the frizz/grease.
The powder is also very light. When you pick up the box is doesn't feel like there is anything inside. It is similar to talk powder and is white in colour. As it is light, it means that it looks very natural and when applied to the hair it moves very naturally and not like hairspray that makes hair stay in one spot. I really like this product to build volume as I am not very good at blow drying my hair properly so I end up just blasting with the hair dyer, straightening hair and then applying Osis powder. This works really well and creates a lot of volume. I would however suggest that you try not to use the product on freshly washed hair as the effects aren't so good but you can apply as little or as much as you like.
I would definitely recommend this product and will be purchasing again. It creates volumised and bouncy hair with minimal effort.
As many of you know I have been in the hairdressing industry for many years, over the years I have come across hundreds of hair products with are designed to give you a good bounce and add instant lift to your hair.
However in my experience many of these have failed to deliver, by either not working at all of making the hair very greasy and full of product, leaving the hair looking very dull and dirty.
I recently came across this Osis Dust it, which promised added volume without a product build up. It sounded too good to be true as I have always been disappointed in the past, however this for me is one of the best products had within the past few years.
The company that make dust it is called Schwarzkopf, it is a brand that has been in the hairdressing industry for many years. The reason for this is that they pride themselves in providing their customers with the best cutting edge styling products.
As you all know style never stands still, so newly improved styling products are a must so they are able to compete with all the other must have styling brands.
Schwarzkopf have certainly captured a hole in the market with this product as it works effectively and helps customers create the latest fashion looks on their own hair.
WHAT IS DUST IT
Schwarzkoph Dust it is a product designed to give your hair instant height and added volume, It is a light powder designed to represent a hairspray it mattifys the hair enabling you to get the height and hold you need.
The powder is very light and creates a very good hold in your hair, without clogging it up with product. If you use the dust it you can still have a natural movement and no one need know you even need a product to get the look.
The product comes in the form of a white powder, which comprises of very fine partials. The product smells very similar to hairspray which is not at all surprising as it is basically and hairspray in powder form.
I personally love straightening my hair as it always looks so healthy and shiny, but the disadvantage of straightening for me it the fact that my hair goes so flat, that it sits flatly from my scalp to the roots making me look very gaunt indeed.
I always like to add a bit of lift to the root area so my hair appears fuller and still healthy looking at the same time, I have used a light hairspray for the past few years and this does work to a certain extent but it does not provide me with a hold that lasts all day, so this dust it has proved to be a little miracle worker for my hair.
The product itself is very easy to apply and will only take you a few seconds to create the fuller look, as the product comes in a bottle similar to a salt shaker, it allows you to use small amounts at a time, which it very good as you only need the smallest amount to get the added height.
To get a little bit of height within your root area, you need to life a one inch section of hair from your parting and shake the product onto your root area and scalp. Allow the hair to fall back down naturally and gently tease the hair against the roots, to get the desired height. Once you are happy with the height your hair will stay put of hours, if you find it does drop a little bit you just tease it back into place and off you go.
If you like to wear the massive bouffant that is currently the latest fashion, this is great as it creates a bouffant which will not droop and part, which is very common especially is you have a strong parting.
If you want to try the bouffant, back comb the back section of the bouffant and shake in some dust it. Once you have added the product the backcombed section will stand up with no sigh of flopping, gently bump up the back combed section and then pull and smooth the front section of the bouffant over that and secure in place with hair grips.
This product is also great for short spiky hair styles as it can define and add lift to the hair style, jus add a small amount on to your palms and wipe it through the hair. To get the height in certain sections just pull the hair up and a 180 degree angle and it will stay in place.
Remember use this sparingly as you only need a small amount to create the looks, if you use too much your hair can feel very dry and bitty, resulting in you being disappointed in the product and having to wash your hair and start over.
The one down side is that this can feel gritty in your hair, but on appearance you would not even know you have product in your hair as it still flows as it would naturally.
PRICE / AVAILABILITY
This Dust it comes in a bright red salt shaker pot which contains 10 grams of product, it is classed as a level 1 product which has the maximum hold, with very little product.
You can buy this for £9.95 from any Schwarzkopf hairdressing stockist. I have also seen this on sale on Ebay much cheaper so maybe it is worth taking a look.
As far as I am concerned this is one of the best products, that has been made in a very long time, it does exactly as it says on the box, by adding instant height and hold.
I find that if I use too much it tends to matt up my hair making it feel very gritty and dry, but this I can cope with as it looks amazing and holds the style all night long. Even after a long winded night out on the tiles my hair still looks great when I get home.
I recommend this dust it to everyone, especially if you have long straight hair that looks very limp and lifeless. I promise you will not be disappointed.
I have just started to straighten my hair everyday after a really bad perm that has caused it to go fuzzy, I am reluctant to cut my long hair off so I had to resort to the over straight style to get it to look better.
although I am used to straight hair now, I can,t stand the poker straight hair that seems to lay flank and very falt on my head and agaisnt my face.
I decided to give this osis dust it a try, as my friend recommended it for adding volume, with out disturbing your straightened hair.
**** Osis Dust it ****
Dust it is really like a hairspray but in a dust powder form, that adds instant hight and volume to any hair.
I just shake a small amount of dust into the sides and back of my head and then push the hair up. This give you instant height and bounce.
The product doe's exactly what it says on the bottle, but the texture of you hair afterwards in very bitty and has a cotton wooly feel to it.
If you can get past the feel of your hair this is a really good product that seems to last for hours, if my hair went flat it would just tease it back into place, to get the height back.
You can expect to pay £12.95 for this dust it and any sally hair and beauty store.
I loved that this gave me instant height and it lasted, so for that alone I recommend this powder hairspray.
Osis+ Dust It from Schwarzkopf appears to be something of an innovation. I first tried this strange new product at a hair salon and was sufficiently impressed that I went back and bought some the following day. The manufacturer claims that this is a "lightweight powder to texturize + soft matt effect + light control and separation + long lasting hold + natural feel." (Their use of '+', not mine!) So does it work?
The powder is certainly lightweight and has rather an odd texture to it as it feels slightly damp in your hands. The best way to apply it is to gently shake the pot before use and then either rub a small amount onto your hands and put it through dry hair, or sprinkle some directly onto the roots. The effect is definitely more matt than any product I have used before and the hair feels drier after application, which makes it much easier to style. This product is rated 1 out of 3 by the manufacturer in terms of control, making it "light control". It does indeed separate the hair, giving the illusion of depth, but it doesn't fix it in place as a gel or spray might, so you are still left with plenty of movement.
I would recommend that this be the final product in your hair routine because if you start brushing and agitating the hair afterwards, it does seem to generate a fair amount of static, although this doesn't last. If you apply too much and then try to brush the hair, you may find it rather unproductive and will probably just end up with split ends if you persist! For this reason, I would suggest ensuring that the powder is evenly distributed, although this can be a bit of a challenge due to the way it comes out of the container - a little like fine flour.
Despite the fact that this product still allows for movement, paradoxically, the "long lasting hold" also seems to be accurate. I have found that it lasts all day and that if the hair starts to look a little flat or lifeless during the day, you can simply give it a scrunch to lift it up again without the need to apply more product. This is something that particularly appeals to me as I don't like to have to keep restyling my hair throughout the day. The first time I used Dust It, there still seemed to be a little of it left in my hair the following day, even after shampooing! This was no bad thing; it meant that my hair was fuller and easier to control than usual, even without applying any further product.
The downsides? It is sticky. It's not a pleasant thing to leave on your hands after applying it to your hair, and rinsing them doesn't seem to be enough - you really need a bit of soap to get it off. That said, the same is true of products such as hair mousse. However, beware if you have sensitive skin - this stuff is nasty! Unfortunately, the only effective way to apply it is with your hands, and frequent use can really dry the skin out. The other negative is the price. It seems that you can pay anywhere between £7 and £11 for this 50ml/10g pot, and depending how often you use it, it's not the longest lasting hair product I've ever used. It's good, but you have to pay for good. Use sparingly!
