Advantages: Rich glossy colour, fabulous shine, great price, easy to use, nice selection of darker colours
Disadvantages: Don't appear to be many blonde shades
I have probably coloured my hair more times than....... well an awful lot. In it's time it has been a multitude of colours, from platinum blonde to black and others inbetween I'm not brand loyal, and purchase based on price and whether or not it's suitable for me, and am always happy to try new things. So when I saw this new Palette dye at a bargain price and the colour I was looking for I decided I didn't have much to lose. After all Schwarzkopf are a reputable brand, and after all those years in the business they must know a thing or two about haircolour. The packaging even states that this is the no. 1 haircolour brand in Europe, and they offer a full money back gaurantee if you are not satisified!
This product is already cheap in my book being £3.49 full price, however I snapped a box of Chocolate brown, (no. 750) for a mere £2.44 at my local Wilko's. I was not only swayed by the price, but also the colours looked really nice, rich and glossy which is eaxctly what I'm trying to achieve. The box is like the one pictured, and inside you get the usual Safety/Instruction leafle which is easy to read and has the disposable gloves attached to it, (the gloves are those cheap thin ones, although they served their purpose for me). Then there is a tube of colourant and a bottle of developer, and lastly the conditioning treatment which boasts the inclusion of macadamia nuts for their beneficial moisturising properties.
Firstly when it comes to colouring your hair at home, I cannot stress the importance of carrying out the sensitivity test even if you've used the product before. I had no problems, so proceeded with dyeing my hair. Like most products I had to squeeze the tube of colourant into the developer lotion bottle and shake vigorously. I then applied the dye to my dry unwashed hair, starting at the roots and around the hairline until all my hair was saturated. The dye is easy to apply, and didn't run or drip at all. Despite plenty of it ending up on my face, ears, neck I found it wiped off easily with a damp cloth and the only unpleasant part was the usual hair-dye smell.
I left the dye on for the recommended 30 minutes, then thoroughly rinsed it all out, squeezed out the excess water and put the conditioning cream on. Two minutes later I rinsed again, making sure the water was clear and then went off to dry my crowning glory.
Once dried I was really surprised at the colour and sheen of my hair. As mentioned before, my hair is overprocessed, and the only flaw I can find is that the ends of my hair don't appear as rich in colour as the rest, however this is down to them being rather dry and damaged. The colour is exactly as it is on the box, and looks and feels really healthy. The shine is amazing and overall I'm very impressed. I think if you have hair that is in good condition you will find this a fab product, that delivers. However everyone's hair is different so obviously results will vary. As for staying power I will have to update the review in a few weeks, as I've only just used it. I personally wouldn't expect it to last more than 4 weeks before it needs re-colouring due to the condition of my hair, but we shall see.
Overall I think this is a great purse friendly dye, and I would highly recommend it and will definitely use it again. With a full refund if you're not happy what's to lose?
Schwarzkopf Palette is available from Boots, Superdrug, Wilkinsons and most Supermarkets nationwide and the rrp. is £3.49
Summary: A really good rival to other more expensive brands, that outperforms a lot of them.
