Advantages: MAKES YOU LOOK YOUNGER ;o)

Disadvantages: MAKES YOU FEEL OLD ;o)

Now, just because I'm writing a review about hair colour doesn't mean I need it for anything else but I fancied a change of colour, ok? So don't you dare start thinking anything else, like 'ooh, Jojo's got grey issues' I haven't. Yes? ... Yes?
Ok, now we can begin...

Fine then, I have a few grey issues!

I last had my hair coloured at the hairdressers last September and the colour had grown out quite a lot since then, as you can imagine. Thankfully my grey is very minimal but it did need doing badly. I've never been really confident at applying hair dye, so luckily for me my best friend volunteered to do it for me.

More fool me, or more fool her? I'm not sure really!

So, I was in Morrisons looking at the vast range of possible candidates to cover my treasured locks and couldn't see a colour that would suit me. The idea was to put a full colour on then add some blonde streaks using a kit that my friend had left over from a previous set. Eventually I came across Schwarzkopf Poly Color Tint. The colour looked just right, it was permanent and claimed to cover any grey. And best of all... it was only £1.72!

The colour I used is No.38 Warm Brown. The box is red in colour and features a picture of a woman with this colour hair, overplucked eyebrows and too much lipgloss! Meow! But it's a fair representation of the shade. On one side of the box is a diagram of what the result will look like after applying it to your natural colour and a quick guide to using it. There is also a freephone consumer advice line which I think is a good thing. On the opposite side are safety instructions, ingredients and a list of contents. On the back you find Schwarzkopf's write up about their product, and I don't disagree with a single thing they say!

Inside there is a glossy colour instruction leaflet which opens out to about A4 size and illustrates a four step guide to the application process. The materials inside include the permanent colour cream (50ml), which is a metal tube that has been sealed, which you have to pierce with the pointy bit on the reverse of the screw top lid. There is a bottle of cream developer (40ml), which is like a small baby's bottle with a long nozzle. And lastly there is a pair of gloves (well, more like two food bags with fingers!) You then simply add the colour cream to the cream developer and shake vigorously and you are all set to go!

Once you apply to all your hair you just massage it in and leave for 20-30 minutes. After that time you work into a lather with warm water and then rinse thoroughly. It then suggests washing with a mild shampoo, but I just used a good conditioner.

As with all hair colours there are warnings about not getting it on your clothes and jewellery, and also to do a patch test 48 hours before you apply it. Interestingly enough, I had never realised what a patch test entailed. Apparently what you do is take some of the colour cream and rub it on the inside of your elbow and leave for 45 minutes to see if you break out in some sort of reaction. I must be honest and say I've never done a patch test, but I suppose you should!

So, after patiently applying it for me, my friend then told me to comb it through, which wasn't an easy thing to do, so if you're easily head sore beware! She also said that it probably could have done with another tube, because my hair is quite long (down to my shoulder blades approximately) but as I wasn't covering much grey it didn't make that much difference. That said, if you have long hair and a lot of grey you'd be as well using more than one. Mind you at £1.72 it'll hardly break the bank!

I must say the results were very impressive and all of my grey (not much really ;o) ) was covered and the overall condition was very good, and the colour was very natural. I left mine on for 30 minutes so I'm not sure what it'd be like if you left it on for less.

I must say that I was very happy with the whole product; the packaging, the information, and the colour itself. I would recommend this to anyone and I can't, for the life of me, understand why all the other makes are over £4.50. I'd get this every time, and not just because of the price!

A very good product and very easy to use!

Summary: EXCELLENT, DOES EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS!

Oh, I can't colour my hair as I am too fair and any roots look like a bald patch.

Never used any colouring, and now people need to be careful after the warning on TV last night.
