Advantages: Smells nice, Cheap
Disadvantages: Makes hair lank
I haven’t got the world’s most demanding hair. In fact, I’m pretty lucky. It’s “normal” – not too dry, and not too greasy. It’s also poker straight unless I have layers and generally easy to control. Generally I have to wash it every 48 hours, although I will wash it daily if I’m going somewhere special. I bought Supersoft Nourishing Shampoo (with extracts of Aloe Vera & Rosemary) for normal hair a few months ago but it isn’t until this week that I’ve really had to use it. The reason I bought it is that it sounded quite gentle and it was also incredibly cheap. I paid about 89 pence in Superdrug (no more than 99 pence) for the shampoo (and about the same for the accompanying conditioner). I found this really reasonable for a 300 ml bottle of shampoo. Other varieties of shampoo in this range: Moisturising (with extracts of wild thyme & jojoba) for dry, damaged and coloured hair (purple) Volumising (with extracts of ginseng & green tea) for fine, flyaway hair (yellow) APPEARANCE: The bottles are very simple in design: transparent plastic bottles with varying coloured tops depending on the blend – mine is light green & opaque because it is the Nourishing shampoo. The shampoo itself matches the cap – light green. SMELL: The smell is light & fragrant. You can smell the rosemary but it isn’t too overpowering. The scent does remain in your hair but it smells quite fresh so this isn’t offputting. PERFORMANCE: Now here is where this shampoo let me down. You don’t need to use a lot of this shampoo to get a good lather so don’t apply too much or you’ll never get rid of the suds! Whilst with most shampoos your hair feels squeaky clean after rinsing, after using Supersoft’s nourishing shampoo your hair feels odd – as if a strange film has been left on it. No amount of rinsing will get
rid of this feeling so don’t bother. After washing with Supersoft nourishing shampoo you could also use the matching conditioner, which I occasionally apply to the ends of my hair. Using or not using this seems to make little difference to the end result Towel dry your hair and style as usual. I usually leave mine for about 15-20 minutes then finish off with a 5-10 minute session with the hairdryer. This shampoo does leave you hair looking naturally shiny (as the bottle implies) however, I have found that by the following morning my hair is a bit lank and horrible. This doesn’t happen with any other shampoo so I have come to the conclusion (after 4 yucky washes with Supersoft) that it is this shampoo. I would expect more from a shampoo that is allegedly for normal hair and I dread to think what the effect of the shampoo for dry hair is! WHAT THE BOTTLE CLAIMS: This refreshing shampoo is designed to: · Promote silkiness and lustre (True) · Enhance shine (True) · Improve hair strength (Maybe) · Provide moisture rich replenishment (True, but overly moist!) · Improve manageability (No!) · Help prevent static and frizz (Maybe) · Protect hair from heat styling damage (Maybe) · Leave hair in a healthy condition (Not really, unless lank = healthy) One consolation is that this shampoo is pH mild and therefore suitable for frequent use. However, I found I had a slightly itchy scalp, which may be due to the fact it doesn’t rinse too well. I would possibly recommend this shampoo if you have slightly dry hair (but not coloured, I should imagine it wouldn’t moisturise your hair enough), but not for normal hair. I don’t think I will be using this shampoo again, cheap or not. - 29/07/02 Phew! I'm glad I'm not the only one who had an itchy head. And I mean REALLY itchy! I used the coloured hair shampoo and conditioner for about 2 weeks. After the 3rd wash I was noticing that I was ithcing a bit. Thought nothing of it until it got to be really unbearable. Itching constantly. Then I thought I'd change my shampoo (I know - a bit slow!). And sure enough - itch free now! |

- 06/02/02 Congrats on the crown! I've been using the one for dry hair & it's okay, but doesn't seem to improve the condition of my hair much. Smells great though! |

- 30/01/02 A shampoo to avoid, I think. Congratulations on the crown. Well deserved. |
