Advantages: No static build up, a little goes a long way, retains moisture, hair feels soft
Disadvantages: Between £10 - £13 for 250ml bottle
I have been a big fan of the Sebastian hair care range for a long time now, favouring the Potion 9 over many high street brands that have a tendency to leave my hair dry, brittle and feeling limp. More recently I decided to try their shampoo and conditioners having grown tired of the one I currently used and I was most surprised that there was an entire range of shampoo's and conditioners to suit every possible hair colour, style and condition.
Eager to try out a new range I quickly ordered a 250ml bottle of Evokativ Moist Hydrating Balance Shampoo. Ashamedly, I have to admit that I chose this one because the name stood out to me more than the others and because I needed something that should add or help retain the moisture in my hair. As the weather changes, my hair changes, sometimes for the better. To give an example, in the rising temperatures of Summer my hair feels bone dry, as does my scalp, so I change my shampoo accordingly, usually on the recommendation of my stylist.
The Sebastian Evokatic Moist Hydrating Balance Shampoo is filled with milk proteins and Pro Vitamin B5. Pro Vitamin B5 is found in many shampoos on the market today and it penetrates the hair right from root to tip, locking in moisture that keeps hair healthy and shiny looking. It also helps to improve the condition of hair and makes it much stronger whilst keeping it soft to the touch. The main thing I have noticed since I have been using this Shampoo is that the usual build up of static after using other brands entirely disappeared. This alone is a major improvement. The idea behind this shampoo is that it will rebalance and restore your hairs natural PH whilst hydrating and cleansing.
When using the shampoo there are a few suggestions that I would personally give to anyone. Firstly when you are in the shower and your hair is wet, ring out the access water and then squeeze the shampoo onto the palm of your hand and as you would use a bar of soap, rub the shampoo between your fingers and then run it through your hair from root to tip ensuring that you massage the shampoo directly into your scalp. Massaging your scalp encourages your hair to produce its own natural oils. After doing this you should then leave the shampoo in your hair for about a minute before thoroughly rinsing it out. Should you feel that your hair is in need of a re-shampoo, which I often do when I have used a lot of styling products during that week you should repeat the process leaving your to dry naturally.
The smell emanating from the shampoo has a fresh citrus zing to it yet after it lathers up it becomes a touch more floral. If I was to compare it to another high street brand the one that immediately comes to mind is the original Herbal Essence Shampoo. The smell is very pleasant and it does remain on your hair for a few hours after using it, so much so that I can still smell it hours after washing and over some of the styling products I use. The fruity smell is divine.
The Shampoo itself is more of a cream than a gel and by gel like I mean the Herbal Essence shampoo which is slightly thicker to use or even perhaps Vosene. The cream is quite slick and water based so it is easy to rub between your fingers and then into your hair, it also lathers quite well and from using the very small amount I mentioned it is enough to cover your entire head and all of your hair.
The bottle itself is elongated and it opens at the end you stand it on. It hosts a little flip top lid that is easy to open and extracting the shampoo requires a minimal amount of effort when squeezing the bottle. The one thing I like about this bottle is that it looks expensive and stylish in comparison to other high street brands and although I did pay £11.55 for a 250ml bottle which some would consider expensive I have to say that for a designer shampoo this is great value for money.
I have been using this shampoo for five weeks now and I have been really impressed with it as a whole, it has improved the strength of my hair dramatically and with the reduction in static I can now style my hair much more easily. On the love to loathe scale I have to sit firmly in the love camp as everything about it means I definitely recommend it. It is available online and the price does change depending on which website you visit so I would suggest shopping around because it ranges in price from £10.50 to £12.99 which is a big increase.
Summary: Mositure shampoo from Sebastian
