Advantages: Does the job and smells great
Disadvantages: None really
I have curly and unruly hair. When I was younger, I used to have my hair longer, and would often use gels or waxes to keep it under control as much as possible. Eventually, I gave up the fight and kept it short, and didn't need any product in my hair to keep it under control.
However, from time to time it grows a little longer than I intend, and I need something to keep it under control. My wife saw this on offer the other week, in Superdrug I think, and she bought it for herself, although I have been using it too!
As a define and shine wax, it is designed to increase the appearance of natural shine in your hair, and to be able to define the style a bit more. I'm aware that it's probably not the best thing to use for my hair, nor is it intended for short and curly necessarily. However, it does have a lot of hold, and it does the job for when I need it.
My wife is very impressed with the effects it has on her hair, and says it keeps the shine and holds it for the majority of her working day. It's not a wax you can just brush out, apparently, so she finds she has to wash it out, but then she does wash her hair daily anyway.
For me, I find it lasts as long as I need it to, and although I often run my hands through my hair, it stays there and means that if I do mess it up, there's enough in there to restyle it and keep it under control with this wax.
It has a purple tint to it, quite a vibrant one, and it is a very soft wax, more like a gel, really. It smells quite sweet, although I can't put my finger on exactly what it smells like. A look at the contents/ingredients (if you can use that word for hair wax!!) doesn't help either, with a host of chemical names I've never heard of before and, quite frankly, worry me! There is ethanol and alcohol included, as you may expect with hair treatment products, but beyond that, nothing is particularly familiar.
Shock Waves do have a good name for themselves, and it's no surprise that this is a quality product in my eyes. It does what it tells us it's going to do: defines, holds and adds shine, leaves your hair soft to the touch, and washes out easily. Overall, a highly recommended product. Expect to pay around the £2 mark for a 75ml tub.
Summary: A very good hair product
