Advantages: Smells Delicious
Disadvantages: None
I must admit I am not really one for using smoothing mousse for my hair. I have a multitude of different products that I know and like and tend to stick with religiously. I was in Morrison's at the weekend and just about to buy my usual products when I noticed a shelf end completely stocked with Shockwaves products each at only a pound. Well the bargain hunter in me decided that I would have to give a few of them a try well at that price if I didn't like them I could bin them and not feel guilty. One of the products I ended up choosing was Shockwaves Tame It Smoothing Mousse.
I may be wrong but I have always thought of shockwaves as wella's budget range of hair care products. I'm not really sure why. Maybe it's just because some of the products I have been using to date do actually cost four or five times the amount. Don't get me wrong I don't just buy products because they are expensive far from it in actual fact. It's just that over the years I tend to stick with the products that have really worked for my particular hair type which I have to say is extremely thick and particularly wild. Hence it takes a lot to tame it.
This product really stood out on the shelf end more so due to the bright red colour of the range and also as a result of the yellow special price labels and hanging sign directly above the products. I scanned the items on offer. I use GHDs pretty much on a daily basis so always look for the heat protection symbol on hair products to ensure that they are compatible with these. (Well they cost a fortune and I don't want to ruin them). The mousse comes in a shiny and extremely funky modern looking canister. The predominant colour is red with Shockwaves written vertically in grey capitals. It features a pink box which highlights the product name which as previously mentioned is Tame it smoothing mousse. This is the medium hold version of the product.
The product is a mousse which promises to create sleek, shiny styles. It apparently has a conditioning formula which smoothes out your hair and helps to protect it from styling heat damage. In addition it will also give long-lasting frizz-free control. It also contains UV protection and the thing that sold it for me (apart from the one pound price tag) was that it is apparently humidity resistant. This I have to say has always been a severe challenge for me as I tend to go out in the heat or slightly damp environments and my hair ends up looking like I have popped my finger into an electric socket. I have to say I didn't really hold out much hope for this product with regards to this claim. Well not on my hair anyway. Here's how I got on.
The mousse itself was a bright white colour, which was of a very light consistency. There was a gorgeous fragrance emanating from the mousse it was a very fresh fragrance slightly citrus however very crisp and clean. Delicious.
To use the product is very simple and there is very little messing about. Just wash and condition your hair as you would normally do. After which just towel dry the hair and brush. Shake the product can very well and holing the can upside down distribute it through your damp hair making sure that it is evenly spread. You can also put a couple of golf ball sized amounts into the palm of your hand and place the mousse through the hair without having to use the can nozzle. After which time blow dry the hair in your preferred way for best results use a rounded brush. In addition the can adds a couple of extra styling tips which I thought were quite handy. These were applying the mousse to a wide-toothed comb then smooth through damp hair; this provides an even distribution of the product. The second tip is to use a nozzle on your hairdryer and point downwards. (I have to say I always use my nozzle on my hairdryer as it is thick it makes drying it quicker anyway).
The results well I have used this twice and am pleased to report that the product does in fact live up to its claims. My hair appeared to be quite smooth immediately after drying. It also stood up to the hideous east coast weather too. Where one minute it could be raining and the next you are basking in blazing sunshine. The fragrance lasted all day too and my hair felt somehow lighter silky and incredibly smooth. I have a day off tomorrow so will be heading back to Morrison's to stock up on several of these products. Heres hoping they are still on special offer. Highly recommended and I will be saving myself a fortune from now on by buying this product. Even at its normal retail price it costs £2.39 so a total bargain. 5 stars.
Summary: Sleek. Shiny. Silky. Hair
