There are a few varieties of Shockwaves Mousses on the market - This review is for Shockwaves Twirl It Heat Defence Curl Mousse.
~SETTING THE SCENE~
I have long naturally wavy/curly hair that is prone to frizzing, especially if introduced to moisture. This, I'm sure you can imagine, is greatly annoying, especially if on a night out when you get to about half way through the night and the heat/moisture in the air begins to make my hair decide to completely the opposite of what I want it to. Over time I have tried many different products to try and ensure that whatever style I choose stays how I want it to for more than about 10 minutes.
~SO WHY DID I TRY IT?~
I am a bit of a bargain hunter, but totally aware of the fact that the cheaper mousses on the market tend to leave sticky residues on my hands after applying, and leave my hair feeling 'icky'. Still having not found a mousse that I liked, I thought I'd give the Shockwaves Twirl It Heat Defence Curl Mousse a try seeing as it was on offer in Superdrug - 2 Shockwave products for £4. A bright red coloured can with a green label also helped as I seem to be attracted to anything brightly coloured. The can promises to 'define or create curls and waves'. Defining curls sounds exactly like what I wanted to do.
~WHAT IS IT LIKE?~
The product is a white mousse with a light texture. Shake the can first and it comes out nice and easily, and not too quickly, so it's not like a mini explosion. Once the product is applied I can barely feel it on my hands and it doesn't make my hair feel 'heavy' as some products can. On the can it also claims that the product conditions your hair and is humidity resistant - both things that I have discovered to be true.
~HOW DO I USE IT?~
The can itself gives you some top tips on how to use the product. I personally tend to apply to towel dried hair and then leave my hair to finish drying off naturally. This leaves me with lovely waves, but I have to ensure that if am planning a night out to wash my hair to allow time for it to dry before leaving the house. If I am going for more defined curls the mousse has heat protection so I can use it with my curling tongs. Either way, I then follow up using the Shockwaves Ultra Strong Hairspray which I will review separately.
I love this product. It works, and does exactly what it says on the tin. The lightness of it is great and doesn't leave any sticky residue that cheaper brands tend to leave. It conditions your hair, leaving it feeling soft to the touch. It is easily brushed/washed out when desired. I find that the frizziness can begin to sneak in there by the end of the night on occasions, but for the most part it does it's job and it lasts, especially when paired up with the Shockwaves Hairspray.
Summary: Does what it says on the tin
