I quite like to use the Simple range of products as they are very gentle and kind to my skin. I don't have a particularly sensitive skin, but sometimes I feel that with a lot of products, they can be rather overloaded with fragrances and added ingredients. The Simple range of products contain no harmful perfumes or colours and from personal experience of using a wide range of these products previously, such as facial wipes and various face and body lotions, I have been pleased with the results, not to mention the more than reasonable prices.
The Simple shampoo is normally for sale at over £2 for a 200ml sized bottle in most supermarkets, but I bought my own bottle a few weeks back for only 99p at Home Bargains. The bottle looks similar to the rest of the range of Simple products. It is plain white with a green flip top lid. The lid on my bottle was really stiff and difficult to prize open the first time I used it, but once it's been used a few times in the shower it seems to have loosened up a lot.
This bottle, unlike a lot of shampoo bottle lately, does not stand on its head. It stands the 'right' way up with the cap on the top, rather than placed underneath. The bottle is solid in colour so I can't see the contents inside but it's made of quite a flexible plastic so I can gently squeeze it to get the contents out.
The consistency of this shampoo is slightly runnier than what I'd been expecting. It has no colour, to speak of, and it resembles a clear sort of gel. It also has no smell, which I actually found rather strange when washing my hair for the first few times with this shampoo, as I am so used to hair products being highly fragranced. The shampoo does lather very well and I only ever need to use the smallest amount. Likewise, it rinses off without too much bother but the way it makes my hair feel afterwards is the best bit.
There really is no need for me to have to use a separate conditioner when I use this product as my hair just feels naturally softer and bouncier anyway. It seems to nourish my hair and soothe it at the same time and I love the way it's so gentle on my scalp. It really is the loveliest shampoo to use and I'm sure you'd also be able to use this on children, as it just seems so mild. I have actually used it on my daughter's hair a few times and though she complains it doesn't have a nice smell, it does make her hair feel lovely and soft and look nice and shiny too.
It's definitely a shampoo I am going to continue to keep using, especially if I can keep buying I for only 99p.

My personal experiences with this extra-ordinary shampoo!
Well, I first purchased this shampoo from Poundworld as I was looking for a gentle, hydrating and nourishing shampoo for my hair. When I first saw this I thought 'I'll give it a go and see whether it suits me'. So I tried it and guess what, It worked wonders for not only my hair but my sensitive and itchy scalp too. What else can I say? My hair was shockingly beautifal and it had never looked so revived. It was as if this wonderful shampoo had revived my hair and simply brought it back to life in a flash!
So there you have it, Why don't you try Simple Gentle Shampoo and the rest of their amazing range of products today and see how you get on. I bet it will work wonders just like it did for me!
Contains Pro-Vitamin B5 for sheen
Chamomile to soothe and soften
Glycerin to nourish and hydrate
No perfume, No colour.
These are the highlights as the list of ingredients on the bottle is as long as your arm!!
For the purposes of this review I have just washed and dried my hair with this shampoo without any other product including conditioner.
The bottle is solid white (so you can't see how much is left in it ) with the 'Simple' logo written on the front, also in green. It's simply shaped and feels quite sturdy. The properties are clearly labelled on the front and back. The lid is green and has a good quality tight fitting flip top lid. It's easy to spot on the shelf.
I initially bought this because I find with some strong shampoo's there's more hair in the plug hole than on my head! so after investigation I decided I needed a mild shampoo. Can be expensive at £2.69 for 200ml in Boots, but I snapped mine up in Home Bargains for 99p for the same amount.
After wetting my hair I accidentally squeezed a very generous amount on to my palm as it's quite thin in consistency. It is totally colour free, looks like thick water. It does smell a little bit but not unpleasantly- since rinsing and drying my hair the scent is almost gone. It lathers well but I did too much on this occasion! usually it lathers well with a smaller amount. The rinsing out time seems short enough and my hair squeaked clean therefore I only did one wash, not two. My hair feels really 'dry' when still wet but softens up with the hairdryer.
In conclusion it's left my hair clean and shiny which will last like that for a few days. It doesn't irritate my scalp and my hair feels 'thicker' than usual although it is a bit fly away- so a pretty good result.
I wash my hair every other day and the bottle lasts a couple of weeks.
Until recently I was not aware that Simple made shampoo and conditioner even though I am very familiar with their facial skin care products which I often used during my teens. I saw this Simple shampoo in Boots when I was looking for a slightly smaller bottle of shampoo to take on a trip (instead of my usual large 900 ml bottle of Tresemme!) Simple shampoo comes in a 200 ml bottle and I paid £3 for the shampoo and conditioner together. On its own the shampoo is around £2.50.
The shampoo comes in a fairly standard flip top bottle with very recognisable, typical Simple branding. It states that it is gentle, with no added perfume or colour and is kind to the scalp to avoid any irritation. It has chamomile oil to soften the skin and hair.
The shampoo itself is almost clear in colour and quite runny in texture, more so than most other shampoos. It is quite a thin liquid. However, it produces a generous lather when you rub it into your hair, so you do not need to use more than your normal amount (which will obviously depend on how long your hair is). There is really almost no scent at all from this shampoo, which seemed a bit strange to me as most shampoos do have a normal "clean" salon type smell even if they are not advertised as having a particular fragrance. However, this does not really bother me. The shampoo is easy to wash out. I used it together with the Simple conditioner.
The shampoo does feel gentle and did not irritate my skin at all. I do have fairly sensitive skin on my scalp and although most shampoos are fine, I have found that occasionally my scalp has felt tight or itchy from a few shampoos.
My hair was left clean and quite shiny. I didn't feel that the Simple shampoo had any exceptional softening or shine factor, but it is perfectly satisfactory. It doesn't make my hair greasy at all and it actually seems to be effective at controlling oil and grease, as my hair still looks fine when I get up in the morning a full 24 hour after washing it.
I am happy with this shampoo. Although I will probably not switch to it permanently instead of my favourite Tresemme salon silk shampoo, I would be happy to buy Simple for travelling as it comes in a smaller bottle or use it occasionally to give my hair and scalp a break, as it really does feel gentle.
A few months back I started to notice sore patches on the top of my scalp which were quite painful when I brushed over them. Upon closer inspection I realised these were little scabs which wasn't too nice!
I'd recently changed my shampoo so I assumed it must have been a reaction to the new product and wanted to use something a little kinder on my head to help clear up the sore problem. Knowing that the Simple range use no 'harmful' chemicals in any of their products I opted to use their gentle shampoo for a while.
A 200ml bottle costs around £2.50 and is easily found in most supermarkets as well as Boots and Superdrug. I recently also found this shampoo stocked in Poundland which saves a bit of money.
This shampoo comes in the usual white bottle with a green lid, very 'simple' packaging as you normally find in the Simple range of products. The shampoo contains vitamins and nutrients such as chamomile and glycerin which apparently help to soften and hydrate the hair. As with all simple products, no chemicals, colour and perfume can be found in this product.
The shampoo itself is a clear liquid with virtually no smell to it at all. This can be a little disappointing as the nice smells produced when washing my hair are something I quite enjoy but, if it helps to repair my scalp then I can go without!
The shampoo lathers up really well and I don't have to use much of this at all to wash all of my hair meaning the bottle lasts quite a while.
I don't really suffer with dry hair so I didn't notice any improvement in that regard but my hair did feel really clean and looked a lot more shiny after using this for a couple of days. Best of all it didn't irritate my scalp and helped those painful scabs to clear up after a week or so making brushing my hair a lot less sore!
Simple Gentle care shampoo
I love the simple brand, I have been using their face products, especially the moisturisers and they are fantastic for my sensitive skin. I don't have a sensitive scalp or anything but but when I saw that they have made a shampoo I had to try it.
*About the product*
It comes in a 200ml bottle, which is a little bit less than all of the other shampoos I have and also because of the bottle design it looks like there is less product than there is. It has the same simple packaging as their other products, such as the moisturisers. It does not contain any perfume or colours, or harsh chemicals that can damage your hair. It also contains some natural ingredients.
Aqua, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamide DEA, Sodium Chloride, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Panthenol, Glycerin, Citric Acid, Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Dipropylene Glycol, Anthemis Nobilis Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Oil, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Hydroxide
*My opinion of the product*
-Appearance, smell, colour
I expected the colour of this shampoo to be white or creamy like a lot of shampoos are but it is clear. It does say that it does not contain any perfume, but it does have a scent to it. It smells like the simple rich moisturiser (like most simple products do), it is quite faint but it is there and it is quite nice too.
-Application and results
I love simple products so I had high hopes this this shampoo, and it didn't disappoint. On application I found that as I started to rub the shampoo into my hair, it lathered up almost instantly. It created quite a bit a lather (not loads) and it smells nice too.
When washing my hair I have to use a lot of shampoo as my hair is long (almost down to the small of the back) so whatever shampoo I use I always have to use a lot. I found that I didn't need as much of this shampoo as I usually do when compared to other shampoos, which is great as it means that it will last longer.
I found that this product really felt like it cleansed my hair well, I use a few products on my hair such as hair spray, an overnight balm and I found that this shampoo cleaned out all of them really well.
One of the best things for me about this product is that it does not take long to wash it out of my hair. I usually spend a lot of time trying to wash out all of the shampoo from my hair, which is time consuming and if I don't get it all out then my hair can be greasy but with this shampoo it is super quick and easy to wash it all out of my hair.
This shampoo leaves my hair feeling really smooth (when wet and dry), it really makes my hair feel like is has been very well moisturised and a lot smoother! That is the main thing that this shampoo has done to my hair, it makes it incredibly smooth. It also makes is a bit softer, it does not feel like my hair is weighed down and it feels more manageable.
Also when I straighten my hair after it has dried overnight, it is a lot easier to brush through, straighten and style after using this shampoo, which is great as it reduces the time I have to spend 'sorting' my hair out in the morning.
*Price and availability*
I bought this product from home bargins (as I am a student and I need the pennies to pay back my loans) and it only cost my 99p, which is fantastic! I have not seen this product before, up until last week when I bought it so I will definitely be on the look out for more simple hair products.
I have not seen this product in other stores apart from home bargins, although on the simple website (below), which is an amazing and very useful site, it says where it is sold. It is sold in Boots, Lloyds pharmacy, sainsburys and wilkinsons among others. You can also buy all simple products from their website too!
*Fantastic price of 99p in home bargins
*You don't need a lot of product to create a good lather
*smells nice (although it is faint)
*Great brand and contains some natural ingredients
*Leaves my hair incredibly incredibly smooth, soft and more manageable
*Does not contain any chemical, perfume or colour
*Nice quite thick smooth texture
*Does not make my hair feel greasy, heavy or dried out
*Lathers well and is very easy to wash out

I must admit that i am quite a fan of simple products. I have hyper sensitive skin, especially on my face, and their moisturisers have been one of the few brands i can use (well some of the products). I first tried the shampoo about 2 years ago, and come back to it a few times since.
Like most products it's great for the first few washes. It doesn't react to the skin of my forehead and it lathers well. It got rid of my other half's dandruff too which was a bonus. It has a clean almost fragrance free smell and doesn't cost the earth. It's stripped down nature means it's a great thing to leave in the bathroom for everyone to use, not sure if that's a benefit or not! I'd say it's normal hair being that it copes with both extremes of dandruff and greasy mops. However it is basic, it's not going to stop your colour fading, or make your hair hyper shiny after the initial change-over period. It's also not expensive looking, so it won't make your bathroom beautiful! you get what you pay for, and as your not paying for hopeless promises and scientific hair miracles it's a great price.
I specifically purchase shampoos that are sensitive so as not to aggrevate my skin.... i assumed that with a shampoo entitled 'Simple' i couldnt go wrong. But apparantly - i could!
This shampoo totally aggrevated my scalp.... it itched, it flaked and the lack of fragrance meant that i didnt get the nice aroma that usually compensates for annoying shampoos.
So i passed it onto my partner - who can usually use any shampoo - and the product caused her scalp to itch and irritated her. She claimed that it caused her hair to be dry and left a film on it. She said that after the day of dryness and irritation - she found that she had greasy roots that evening.
I have to say - i always assumed that Simple would be gentle on any skin types... but as my wife and me have proven - that isnt the case.
My advice to you - dont assume that because it says it is 'Simple' - dont assume it is!
I have been using Simple shampoo for about 10 years now, if the memory serves! I reckon that gives me the right to offer an informed opinion on it.
Around ten years ago I contracted a scalp infection which the medics and Dermatologists were unable to identify. It was similar to the Contact Dermatitis which I suffer from but was not quite the same. Being "Follicly challenged" - alright quite bald, it was a real problem - risk of infection, unsightly etc.
Along with using various prescribed potions and creams, I tried many different types of shampoo all of which were, un-perfumed, unadulterated, natural, clean etc, but nothing seemed to help at all. It was a full 12 months before I got round to trying Simple shampoo. Gosh I wish I had tried it earlier. Within a week I was seeing an improvement, it was small but it was there. I discussed this with my medics but they could offer no suggestions other than keep on using it. This I did, within six weeks my scalp was clear of the "Lurgy" and it has never come back since. Was this as a result of the Shampoo? We will never know for sure, but I think it was and that's why I keep using it.
I use it every day and never have a feeling of my hair being "Over washed" or having a dry scalp or needing conditioner - not that I dare use one anyway.
It is just so mild and pure, no perfume, no additives, just plain and simple Shampoo. Maybe it has a special ingredient, what ever! It works for me.
I wish it were available in larger bottles and was a little cheaper, but you actually use so little with each application that even the small bottle that it comes in lasts a fair while. It can sometimes be a little difficult to locate, as not too many shops / chains stock it - Boots being the largest that I am aware of. However I do manage to keep finding it - thankfully.
I have nothing but praise for this product, long may they continue to manufacture it. If you have a sensitive scalp or something similar, give this shampoo a go, it just may be as good for you as it is for me.
This is the only shampoo my boyfriend can use without fear of having a nasty, flaky, itchy and sore scalp afterwards. Just about every other shampoo is too harsh and irritating for him. This one has no colours or perfume added, so presumably this removes all the nasties his scalp can't stand.
It comes in an opaque white bottle with a green lid, and green logo and text. The bottle tells you about the nice stuff it contains (such as vitamin B5 and chamomile oil), and what it doesn't contain (any additives, basically. Also, Simple shampoo contains no animal-derived ingredients). It says on the bottle it is designed to avoid irritating sensitive scalps, so it looks like it does what it's meant to!
The shampoo has a light, clean smell, which is a bit tangy, but also less noticeable or strong than the smell of most other shampoos. It's clear in appearance, and lathers up well. It gets your hair clean very easily and works just as well as other shampoos I use. I have noticed, that although my scalp isn't particularly sensitive, I get less flaky skin when using this shampoo.
This is the ideal product for people with an easily irritated scalp. It's also about the same price as most other branded shampoos, so you're not paying extra for the priviledge.
I love Simple as a brand, but until a couple of weeks ago I had never tried the shampoo or conditioner.
I like to change my shampoo regularly to avoid my hair getting used to one shampoo (I don't know if it is true, but I read once that if your hair gets used to one shampoo it becomes ineffective at cleaning your hair) and I saw this in Poundland (i'm classy me!) so I thought i'd give it a go and i've been really pleased with the results!
In keeping with the "simple" theme, the packaging is like most things in the simple brand - white with green writing. It doesn't look too exciting to be honest, but how often do you need to be impressed by your shampoo bottle?!
This shampoo is clear (no colours here) which adds to the feeling that it is simple and pure. It lathers up well and smells nice despite the bottle saying it has no perfume either - it smells "clean".
I love the way it rinses out so easily leaving no residue on my hair and my hair feels really clean afterwards. It also leaves my hair really soft and shiny, which reminds me of when I used to use baby shampoo on my hair (washing it every day, I like a gentle shampoo!).
I have been using the shampoo with the Simple Conditioner which is nice also (I feel another review coming on!)
I'm really pleased with the shampoo and I plan to buy it again. I believe it is about £2.20ish when not available in Poundland which I think is a good price for a daily shampoo which leaves my hair so nice :-)
Again another simple product I am reviewing. I got this as part of a set for christmas, as many people know how much I love the simple brand. To buy this individually it costs around 2.20 for a 200ml better, so pretty reasonable and widely available in wilkinsons, botts, supermarkets and superdrug etc. The packaging is the traditional simple design, with the green flip cap lid, and white bottle, with simple logo design on the front. This shampoo like all other simple products is ph balanced, fragrance free, and also lanolin free, and this shampoo is suitable for both normal and greasey hair.
The biggest dissappointment with this shampoo, is that because it is fragrance free you dont get that smell when lathering it through your hair, so this is a shame because I love that smell of clean shampooed hair, which you dont really get with this. It does lather really well, and gets rid of all the grease well. When drying my hair it did look really clean and healthy and had a good shine to it, so it is a good shampoo, but my hair didnt have that nice smell to it, like it does when I use herbal essences or pantene etc. It is kind to your hair, and doesnt strip it of vital natural oils, so hair is soft and shiny. But because my scalp is not that sensitive like the skin on my face I would prefer a shampoo with a hint of fragrance. Howvere if you have a really sensitive scalp and suffer from sensitive skin then this would be great.
I was given this shampoo as part of a gift set.
It is a 200ml white plastic bottle with the 'Simple' logo on the bottle. The bottle is recyclable so that's a bonus.
They sell for between £2.20 and £2,50 for the 200ml bottle.
I like 'Simple' products. (In fact I wish everything in my life was simple!)
One problem with reviewing this shampoo is that I can't tell you how nice it smells. It don't smell nice, it doesn't really smell of anything! It certainly doesn't smell nasty.
I think for me that part of being convinced that my hair is nice and clean is that it smells good afterwards. It feels a bit odd in the shower not to have this sensory reinforcement.
The clear shampoo is fairly thick and easily dispensed from the flip top bottle. Irritatingly, the bottle top is slightly domed, so when the bottle is nearly empty it will not be possible to stand it upside down to get the last bits out.
It lathers well and you don't need to use too much of it, nor do you need to use it twice. If you are in the habit of washing your hair twice in the shower I don't think this would strip your hair of natural oils. It is very mild. It makes a good rich lather and it doesn't sting your eyes if you are unlucky enough to get some in there.
It is Lanolin free, so no little sheep were denuded and left shivering on a hillside in order to make this!
It left my hair feeling soft and managable. It has a nice shine too.
Because my hair can get greasy easily if I overwash it, I shampoo every other day. This shampoo has been fine for that.
Overall the product does it's job as a shampoo. It isn't wildly exciting but then shampoos aren't usually, are they?
I think it's a bit expensive for what it is. I also think it's a funny old world when we have to pay over the odds for products that are simple and leave things out. You would think that would make it cheaper wouldn't you?
Leaves hair shiny and easy to manage and gentle on the scalp / It is specially formulated not to strip hair of its vital natural oils / Fragrance and lanolin free and suitable for both normal and greasy hair /
