Advantages: Smells nice
Disadvantages: Leaves hair coarse
I got this soap and glory treatment mask in a gift set for Christmas and actually forgot about it until a few weeks ago. I gave it a try as I do love Soap and Glory shower gels and thought this would be good too.
The packaging is in the same retro style that we have all come to love from soap and glory, with the girly pink colouring. The product states "gloss giving radiance and repair mask" but on the back it states it can be used as a daily conditioner if you leave it on for 60 seconds or as a weekly deep treatment mask if you leave it on for 3 or 4 minutes.
When I went to use this treatment I picked it out of the little vanity case it came in and promptly flicked the lid to have a little sniff of the lovely scent that makes soap and glory products so popular. I breathed in deeply and almost choked! Soap and glory products generally do smell really nice if a bit over powering at times but this conditioner was just too much. But maybe I just breathed a bit too deep so I went back for another little sniff! Not quite so bad but still strong, however I thought that this would be a lovely scent for my hair.
I washed my hair with my usual shampoo and then I put on the treatment mask. The feeling of the mask is very thick almost plasticy I squeezed some out into my had and started to smooth over my hair. Normally at this point I would start to feel my hair soften and detangle but nothing like this was happening so I put on a little more and left it a minute. After that I tried to comb the product through my hair as I usually do with conditioner. This proved more time consuming and difficult than usual but eventually I got there.
The product took quite a while to rinse out and once it was all rinsed out my hair felt like it had a coating on it but didn't feel soft like it usually does.
Once my hair was dried it looked ok, not as shiny as usual and not as soft as usual. I did notice that before I washed my hair again it got very knotty easily and this product really did not agree with my hair type. I have quite thick hair but it is not very coarse and this is the only conditioner that has had such a bad effect on my hair.
I wouldn't use this again either as a treatment mask or a daily conditioner but having read other reviews many others seem to like the product. My advice is to find this as a trial size and see how it suits your hair then you could splash out on the full size bottle. The price in boots at the moment is £5.87 so it is not a cheap conditioner.
I am going to give this 2 stars purely because my hair did smell nice even if it didn't look nice.
Summary: Worth a try to see if it suits your hair type

- 01/05/09 Have heard really mixed things about this - either people seem to react like you or they love it! I have quite thick hair too, thick I will avoid unless I can get it as a freebie! |

- 01/05/09 I used this for the first time last night, and I'm not really sure what I think of it yet. It doesn't seem to have had the bad effects you describe though |
