Advantages: lots of colour choices, wide variety of products, cheap
Disadvantages: some products not fantastic quality
Stargazer produce a wide range of makeup, often in colours that mainstream brands tend to avoid (blue lipstick for instance). As well as makeup they also make hairdyes and other styling products.
I shall base my review on the products of theirs that I personally own, which have all been purchased from stalls in Camden (although I believe some of their stuff is sold in New Look and you can buy it online).
1) Red Mascara:
It doesn't have a specific product name, just 'MASCARA' printed on the side of the tube, it doesn't even seem to have a colour code or name - I can tell it's red because the tube is see through.
I bought this as I always use black mascara and wanted something bright and different that would stand out so I thought this red would do the trick. To be honest the results were disappointing - although the brush has a nice covering of mascara on it, very little of the seems to transfer to my eyelashes and what does transfer isn't nearly as bright as I'd hoped. This isn't something I'll be buying again.
2) Lipstick
I own: 130 (bright purple) and somewhere I also have a blue and a black.
The lipstick somes in a little black tube so it's not immediately obvious what the cover is - you have to take off the lid to find out. Upon opening you are greeted with a smell that reminds me of face paint and the lipstick itself is very thick and slightly greasy to the touch.
When applying to the lips you have to use a bit of force to get it to transfer onto your skin and you'll need to sweep it over your lips a couple of times to get full coverage although the colour is true to appearances.
Once on it feels quite heavy on the lips, but on the plus side it has real staying power - more so than any other lipstick I've tried, so you won't have to worry about reapplying after you've eaten.
In the past I also had a red eyeshadow from stargazer than came in a little plastic pot with a flip lid - I was quite happy with this product as it was easy to apply, good strong colour and good lasting power. Unfortunately I seem to have lost it.
Overall I can't say I've been that impressed with the makeup offered by Stargazer - it's alright, but nothing amazing. That said they're one of the few companies that offer makeup in startling colours and for a half decent price. If they had something I wanted in a colour that I couldn't get from another brand then I would buy again, otherwise probably not.
As of this moment in time, I haven't tried any of their hairdyes, but would be willing to in the hope that they are as good as or better than Manic Panic.
Summary: A half decent company catering to the alternative market
