Advantages: Cheap, & leaves hair conditioned and soft.
Disadvantages: Doesn't quite live up to all its claims.
Now when it comes to hair care you should know one thing about me, I'm the most disloyal person you'll ever find! Even if there's a brand or a product I particularly like I'm easily tempted away by just the smallest promise of fantastic shine or just the slightest price cut. That's why a couple of weeks ago I found myself piling 2 for 1 Sunsilk products into my trolley at an alarming rate!
The Brand
Sunsilk is produced by the Unilever brand which is a multinational company now operating within America, Canada and Europe although its products are outsourced around the globe. Sunsilk is just one of their personal care brands; others also include Dove, Lynx and Vaseline just name just a few.
Sunsilk was introduced quite recently to the market and in the past year has undergone some major packaging changes. There are eight main ranges in the Sunsilk brand which include the Deeply Brunette range. There are three products in the Deeply Brunette range which includes the shampoo, conditioner and also a multi-tones enhancing cream.
The Claim
Before I discuss the shampoo itself I'll tell you what it claims to do... Firstly it is recommended that you use this shampoo in conjunction with the accompanying conditioner to achieve the best results. There are chestnut extracts contained in the shampoo which promise to enrich the colour of your hair. It also promises to give you shimmering hair, rich multi tones and maximum radiance. Lastly it promises to give you all these qualities without adding or depositing any colour. It can be used on a daily basis and is suitable for natural, highlighter or colour treated brunette hair.
The Product
The shampoo comes in an eye catching squeezy tube which is a deep and rich brown colour, presumably to stand out on the supermarket shelf and also give you some indication as to the condition your hair could be in if you were to use this shampoo. There's a clear, circular cap at the bottom of the tube which requires you to flip up the lid to dispense the product. It's also quite handy as it means it can stand upright on any surface as well as allowing you to dispense the product easily.
The shampoo is a lighter brown in colour which has a sparkle type effect to it, the shampoo appears to shimmer in any light giving quite a high quality and intense look to the shampoo. The smell is really pleasant and quite light compared to some shampoos, there are salon hints here as well as a sweet type scent as well - there are hints of palm milk and gingko in all the products which add to the scent.
To dispense the product simply click off the lid and squeeze it onto your hand before applying to your hair as you would with any shampoo. The Sunsilk shampoo lathers up quite well although there's not as much lather as there is with other shampoos I've tried, you tend to need quite a bit of shampoo to get a decent amount of lather. The scent is pleasant and quite weak when used in the shower.
The Result
I've used this shampoo on numerous occasions over the past couple of years in conjunction with the conditioner and have never had any problems with it. It leaves my hair feeling soft and does seem to add to the natural shine of my hair. With regard to it maintaining my brunette colour I'm not convinced really - I think there are probably better products out there for doing this so if you're looking for something to nourish your brunette colour I'd probably look elsewhere as my colour treated hair does seem to fade at a normal rate when using this shampoo. However if you're looking for a normal shampoo that won't dry your hair out or leave it greasy and might... just might... nourish your brunette colouring, then this could be right up your street!
My Opinion
I do like expensive shampoos, especially when I've got a special occasion, however I can't really afford to go through £20 of shampoo a month! I've been using Sunsilk for a couple of years now and always find myself going back to it when I'm just looking for an everyday shampoo.
I'll definitely be using this shampoo again as well, largely due to the fact that it's only priced at £1.99 for 200ml and I frequently see it on 2 for 1 offers at supermarkets which makes it an absolute bargain. A tube of the shampoo lasts me about 3-4 weeks based on washing my very thick hair twice a week. Therefore it's an absolute bargain and I always stock up on this whenever I see it on offer.
It's getting 4 out of 5 stars from me, it's a bargain and it treats my hair well but doesn't quite live up to the claims it makes!
