I bought this hairspray as I had a £10 Love2Shop voucher and wanted to spend the full amount (as they don't provide change if you don't spend the full amount). It was cheap at only £1.19 for 300 ml. I noticed they also have a smaller 75ml version for £0.79 - ideal for holidays. The hold - The spray itself has an average to good hold. It kept my hair in place relatively well, though there was of course some loss of fix over a few hours. I am quite sparse with my application of hairspray to avoid clumping hair, creating stickiness, creating a manufactured 'shine' and an overwhelming scent. I'd score the hold of the hairspray as 6/10, which is perfectly reasonable for the price. Sticky? - The spray was not sticky, though I can imagine if you use a lot of it there may be a build up of product which in turn will make the hair tacky to touch. The scent - For me, this is the let-down aspect of the product. I really am not keen on the scent, and it is quite strong. I found myself having to apply additional perfume to mask the scent of my hairspray. I understand all hairsprays have a scent, but this, for me, was quite unpleasant. Over all - It didn't enhance my hair in any way. It didn't add shine, moisture or nourishment. But for a low price, it did the job it intended and I don't really demand that such a cheap product do much more than it says on the tin.
I've been using Superdrug's own brand of Firm Hold hairspray since my last tin from Tesco's ran out. I kept looking in Tesco's for ages to replace the one that had ran out, but all the Firm Hold tins were sold so I popped along the road to Superdrug and bought one of theirs instead. This hairspray comes in a choice of two sizes, the smaller one costing only 79p for a 75ml tin and the larger one (which I bought) at £1.19 for a 300ml tin. The smaller can wouldn't have lasted me two minutes so opted for the larger one as hairspray is something I use on an everyday basis. Using this hairspray is just like using my usual can of Tesco's. The can delivers a nice fine layered mist over my hair and the smell is very pleasant. It's not an overpowering smell but it's delicately fragranced and smells slightly floral. I like the fact that I don't have to keep on holding the tin rigidly upright while I'm using this hairspray. By that, I mean that if I want to use the spray underneath my hair at the back, to give it a bit of volume, then the spray still comes out of the can in a fine mist even if I am holding it at a slight angle. I have trouble in doing this with my usual tin of Tesco's hairspray. The hairspray dries pretty quickly and it doesn't leave my hair feeling wet or clogged. It has the ability to hold my style in place all day long and whilst it's not the firmest hairspray in the world, it works sufficiently well for me and if I choose to put my hair up in my clippie and then spray with this hairspray afterwards, I am usually confident that my style will be effectively held in place throughout the entire day. This hairspray is also enriched with Provitamin 5 which is designed to help make my hair look extra healthy and shiny whilst holding my style in place. I don't think my hair looks any shinier when I use this hairspray, but I can vouch for the fact that it does a fantastic job at holding my hair in place all day long. I also like the fact that this hairspray doesn't clog up my hair or leave it feeling like it's coated with a thick mass of spray. It both brushes and washes out well and my hair looks natural and has movement throughout the day, but the style is effectively held in place. To be honest, I am glad that Tesco's ran out of my usual hairspray when they did, otherwise I might never have got around to trying this Superdrug hairspray out at all. I am so pleased I did, and I would say it's up there with my favourite brands now. Highly recommended.
THE PRODUCT ____________ This hairspray comes from superdrugs own range. It is an a tall metal bottle with a grey plastic top. It comes in 3 different strengths (and colours). Natural hold, firm hold and extra firm hold and is avaliable in two different sizes.75ml which costs 79p or the larger 300 ml for £1.19. This range also is enriched with Pro-vit 5, which adds extra shine and protection to your hair. The can, can be recycled and as with all of supers drugs own range it is BUAV approved and NOT tested on animals. MY EXPERIENCE _____________ Firstly using this product couldnt be easier. Press the top of the cap and it comes out of the side from a small hole. It shoots a fine spray to about 15cms and can be sprayed from all angles, even upside down. It does have a very faint smell, but its actually a plesent smell, not like typically strong hairsprays. I have used this on up hair styles and also on my hair when its down, to not get such a stiff look I spray it into my hands and run my hands through my hair I use the extra firm hold one and its not sticky. Now it can produce a hard gel like effect but thats if you put loads on. It brushes out easily and doesnt leave build up in your hair. MY OPINION ____________ I actually love this product and buy it time and time again. Its cheap in price and lasts a long time. It holds hair firm in place withut building up and I love the fact you can brush it out. Its reates a really smooth look and I love the feel of it when its on. Its also not sticky so I can style with my hands without them ruining the smooth hair. brilliant for on the go in the smaller size and you can get it at all superdrug shops, and now with the superdrug reward scheme I have an extra excuse to go and buy it. Next time you need hairspray, dont go spending loads of money on a named brand girls, just try this one. I promise you wont be disapointed. Thanks for reading and rating. Also on Dooyoo Amyboo
It's not often that I use hairspray, but with the party season ahead, when my daughter asked me to pick up a can of hairspray I decided I'd get one for myself. When I went into Superdrug I was quite surprised by the range of hairsprays available and chose this one based on the price. These cans are £1.19 for a 300ml can and were on offer being only 2 for £2 when I bought them. At this price it wouldn't matter to me if it wasn't great and only got used a couple of times over Christmas. The can is silver and you do not need to remove a lid to use it, just pressing the top of it and the hairspray comes out of the front of the car. There is a pink coloured design on the can. It states that it is enriched with Pro Vitamin B, is non-sticky, provides long lasting hold, brushes out leaving hair soft and looking shiny. I used to use a lot of hairspray when I was younger and found that any spray which did provide a decent amount of hold would leave my hair feeling far from soft so I was a bit skeptical reading the claims. When I first used this I had put some rollers in my hair to give it some extra bounce and volume, it was a damp night so I didn't expect this to last. As instructed from the can I held the can approximately 25-30cm away from my hair (although I didn't measure) and sprayed a light spray all over it. I left it for a couple of minutes and then decided to have a feel. To me it felt a little hard and sticky but it wasn't too bad and off I went for my evening out. After an evening out and a 10 minute walk home, when I arrived home I was please to see the spray had held my hair and volume all night. When I brushed my hair out I was also quite impressed, it was easy to brush through, and left no visible residue or white flakes. I would still know that I had used a spray on my hair so wouldn't say it left it very soft but it wasn't sticky or too hard. I didn't notice any added shine from using this spray but I don't think it made the condition of my hair look any worse and I don't think you could visibly tell I had used hairspray. I've used this a few times since and find that it does provide a lasting hold. For the price I think this is a really good spray and would get it again. It is certainly not as sticky or didn't make my hair as hard as some other more expensive brands.
You know when you get that feeling of "you get what you pay for" which always leaves you contemplating 'should I/shouldn't I?' just to save a few pennies? All of that can go out the window with this hairspray, honestly. For such a small price of £1.19 for 300ml or 79p for a 75ml hand bag size can, you genuinely cannot go wrong and there is absolutely no need to fork out all the extra pounds just because of a leading brand name. It does what it says on the can, it holds your hair in place and it isn't tacky and sticky, it's a nice fine mist that doesn't knot up or tangle your hair when you wash and or brush it out. There are a number of different types available from natural hold to firm, extra firm and un-perfumed for those who dislike any strong aromas. What's more is that all of super drug's products are vegan and cruelty free - this means that there is absolutely no animal ingredients within the product and it has not been tested on animals in any way shape or form; so not only are you saving money, you have piece of mind knowing that what you're using hasn't harmed any animals. You can buy any of the hairspray ranges in store or online, though of course postage will apply if you're purchasing it online so it goes without saying - if you're only after some hairspray then pop into your local superdrug.
*~*Introduction and reason for purchase*~* I live on a quiet lane but am lucky to be within a 10 minute walking distance from a small retail park which features amongst it's shops a Superdrug store. I find this extremely handy for picking up everyday toiletries and medicines as well as simply perusing the different products if I have a spare 10 minutes or so and often buy basic beauty staples from there. One such product that I have repeatedly purchased over the years is their own branded hairspray and my review will now discuss my experience of using 'Superdrug Firm Hold Hairspray'. *~*What Superdrug have to say about this product*~* "...Enriched with Pro-Vitamin B5, this firm hold hairspray with micro fine spray has been specially formulated to provide a non sticky, long lasting hold for all hair types. It brushes out easily to leave your hair feeling soft and looking shiny and beautiful.." *~*Directions for use*~* We are told to shake the can well before using. Then hold the can upright approximately 25 -30 cm away from the hair before spraying evenly and avoiding the eye area. *~*Price, packaging & availability*~* This hairspray comes in two sizes: *One smaller hand bag size of 75 ml which costs £0.79 *A larger version of 300 ml which costs £1.19. It is available in: *Extra Firm Hold *Firm Hold *Natural Hold I have bought and used both sized products over the years and all the different strengths but for reviewing purposes it will be the larger size I will be referring to as it's the one I currently have sitting in my bathroom cupboard, along with an almost empty bottle of the extra firm hold. The hairspray comes in different strengths as well as sizes, and whilst I have tried the others I find that the Firm Hold seems the best suited to my short / straight hair so it is the one I tend to opt for each time when making a purchase. All of the hairsprays come housed in a matte silver/ grey tone can which are upward standing and feature a sixties inspired logo on the front of a woman with a bouffant hair style which stands out due to the shiny imprint with each strength being a different colour and with Firm Hold being a metallic hot pink. To access the hairspray there is an integrated nozzle positioned directly on top of can with a large button that easily activates the spray once pressed a few times. The only difference in appearance between the sizes is that the smaller cans have a small nozzle with a removable lid, though this is more practical I feel if carrying around in your bag but not needed on the larger cans as they are too bulky to haul around. *~*My experience of using this*~* I have nearly always had long hair but a few months ago I had it cut into an inverted bob with lots of layers on top. Although I loved my new style I found it took some getting used to styling, particularly on a busy school morning as I was used to tying it back in a pony tail if having a bad hair day. I invested in some hair products such as wax and mousse and found I was using hairspray on a daily basis rather than just occasionally if my hair was down when longer. One thing that has always been off putting when it comes to using hairspray is how 'crispy' it can leave my hair feeling and literally crunches on trying to comb out but when I discovered TREsemme hairspray a few years ago I found it to be lightweight yet held my style in place. Unfortunately as it cost almost £4 a can I found it exceeded my budget and I needed to find a cheaper option which is when I turned to Superdrug's own brand. Originally I started off using the smaller 75ml size can as a tester really but found it to be of quite a superior quality in comparison with some shop's brands that I also started investing in the larger cans on a more regular basis which eventually replaced my beloved TREsemme. The hairspray is easy to use and because there is an integrated nozzle attached you simply aim at hour hair and proceed to spray. The button to activate the spray has a seal which needs breaking at first by pressing slightly harder down than you would normally then afterwards it's a very simple affair. Once the button is pressed down the hairspray emits at quite a rapid pace and is very fine which is reflected on the hair making it feel very lightweight. The hairspray has quite a pleasant, slightly floral, fragrance and doesn't have that generic hairspray scent which can often accompany sprays (particularly shops own brands) and can be overpowering. *~*Results and recommendations?*~* I would say I have been using this spray now for at least 3 years on and off but more frequently this past six months since having my hair cut short. It sprays out of the can in a fine mist and covers my hair evenly whilst drying almost instantly without leaving any tacky/ sticky residue behind. Although this is the Firm Hold I am reviewing I also have a smaller version of the Extra Firm Hold which I alternate between and can honestly say I can't tell any significant difference between the two so it's worth bearing this in mind if you are thinking of purchasing a can. As all of the strengths contain Pro- Vitamin B5 it is noticeable when using as it leaves my hair feeling quite nourished and soft whilst holding my hair in place and is very easy to brush out afterwards. I've never once had a case of 'helmet hair' when I've used this hairspray and I think for the money it is exceptional value, particularly the larger can as it lasts me for at least 3 to 4 weeks and this is of consecutive use. I nearly always buy a small can as well as the larger version as the smaller size is ideal for popping in my bag, especially if on a night out and because it's a similar size to a body spray it takes up very little space in my bag. *~*Conclusion*~* A fantastic hair product at a very reasonable price that does what it says. It is easy to use, smells very pleasant, doesn't leave hair crunchy and brushes out easy enough..what more could you want from a hairspray? Top marks from me 5/5.
