*~Coconut and Sweet Almond Shampoo~*
Superdrug offer a range coconut and sweet almond hair care products including shampoo, conditioner and an intensive conditioner. I will be discussing my use of the shampoo.
This shampoo is perfectly suitable for vegetarians and is not tested on animals. Superdrug claim that this shampoo will help 'restore moisture and shine' and is best suited to dry and damaged hair types. This shampoo contains natural coconut oil and also almond extracts which together, should help strengthen your hair and leave it soft, healthy and scented.
*~Packaging~*
This shampoo is presented in a tall, slim cylinder shaped bottle which is made from clear plastic. It is complete with a black, screw top lid which conceals a small dispensing hole. The label around bottle offers the important product information and the bottle can be recycled. This shampoo has a 12month shelf life.
*~Price and Availability~*
This shampoo is available in Superdrug stores and from www.superdrug.com. A 100ml travel sized bottle is priced at 79p and a 300ml sized bottle is 99p. This shampoo is currently part of a '2 for £1.49' offer.
*~My Thoughts~*
A few weeks ago I needed to replace our shampoo and conditioner. I usually buy what is on offer and like to try new brands so when I spotted the '2 for £1.49' offer on this shampoo and the matching products, I decided to buy and see if it was any good. I bought this alongside the Intensive Conditioner. At the moment, I wash my hair every second evening and use Boots Leave In Conditioner. I currently use the Intensive Conditioner once per week.
My hair is long, thick and quite dry. It is damaged too and is badly needing sorted out at the hairdressers. At the moment, I am not interested in my hair being perfect - I just want it to be clean and tidy as it goes up in a bobble most days. I chose the coconut and sweet almond shampoo as I love the scent of coconut but unfortuantely, I have not been fully impressed with this shampoo and I feel the quality definitely reflects the super cheap price of this product.
The shampoo itself is a milky colour and quite glossy. It has a rather thick, gloopy consistency. As you would expect, I do need to use quite a lot of shampoo per wash but each time I use this shampoo, I feel like I am using much more than I would with other shampoos. I thoroughly soak my hair with the shower head and then dispense a blob and then another as the shampoo doesn't lather up all that well. Once I do get a lather going, it isn't 'luxurious' as Superdrug claim and is definitely lacking.
The scent of this shampoo is no where near as nice as most coconut products are. The almond is probably more noticeable and there is only a hint of sweetness - it doesn't smell tropical like I would expect it to and is quite a synthetic scent. It does linger on my hair for a short while which isn't a great thing really when I don't like it! This shampoo takes very little time to rinse from my hair and leaves no residue.
Once my hair has been rinsed, it feels squeeky clean and the shampoo doesn't irritate my already irritated scalp. The let down is definitely the moisturising aspect of this shampoo - it simply doesn't perform well for overly dry hair. My hair had a nice shine about it but even when soaking wet, I could barely get my fingers through my hair. It was full of tangles and felt incredibly dry. If left in such a way, I would be in pain trying to get a brush or comb through it. No softness - no moisture.
A conditioner (and a good conditioner at that) is required to put moisture back into my hair after using this shampoo. The leave in conditioner works wonders and I would expect any decent conditioner could rectify the dryness but a shampoo really shouldn't cause so much damage to hair. I found my hair did remain fresh for the 2 days in between washes. My fiance finds this shampoo to be perfectly fine for his short, normal hair type though.
*~Conclusion~*
If you have normal hair then this may be fine as it is gentle and does clean hair well. It is not suitable for the targeted consumer though in my opinion so was a let down for me personally. I wouldn't buy it again and can only award it 3 stars (would have been two but the fact that it does clean hair saves it one star). I hate wastage so will use the last dregs in the bottle we have before disposing of it.
Thanks for reading :)
Summary: won't buy it again
