My Mum purchased this for my Daughter who has very tight Afro hair that knots easily and after trying everything this brush promised the end of tears at brush time........or so we thought!
The brush looks gorgeous, it comes in what looks like a flowerpot which stores the brush bristles down, I think this is a great as it prevents the bristles from getting knocked or battered and also it doesn't get left on the floor to be trodden on (ouch!) it is made entirely of plastic, which means it is very easy to keep clean. I simply remove any hairs from it after use and every week or so I give it a rinse under the tap to get rid of any nasty dry skin or product residue.
After reading review after review claiming this would get through the knottiest of hair with no drama or tantrums I couldn't wait to try it. My daughter loved the pretty colour and flower design and it is very easy to hold with a good grip. It did not however glide through her hair, I tried it wet and dry and with conditioner but it kept getting stuck and after a few attempts (and a lot of tears) we gave up. She does have very very tight curls and I wasn't too disappointed as I hadn't got my hopes up that this would work on her hair due to the bristles being quite short and her hair being so thick.
I, however was adamant it wouldn't go to waste and so decided to try it on my thick, unmanageable hair. It worked a treat! My usually unruly locks, were tamed in seconds with just one stroke of the teezer. What would normally take me a good ten minutes, took me literally a minute to make my hair knot free. I use this whilst my hair is wet, to distribute conditioner and also before blow drying as it does not snag and break wet hair like a lot of other hair brushes do. It also works equally well on dry hair, especially when my hair is all knotted on a windy day, this brush just glides the knots out with no tugging at my scalp.
This can be used on wet or dry hair, which diminishes the need for endless different brushes and combs clogging up your dressing table. It is the only brush I use now and I recommend it to most of my friends and their children. My daughter unfortunately has found a wife toothed come is better for her hair.
I recently 'pinched' my daughters Tangle Teezer as I was so impressed with the results it delivered but as part of the deal, I had to replace it with the Flower Pot version for her.
I believe this is one of the more recent additions to the Tangle Teezer family, but it is still widely available in places such as Boots or Amazon. Unlike the members of the family, this one does seem to vary much in price from the RRP of £10.99. There are a few colour variations available but as with most things I buy for Lauren, I brought the pink flower.
The pot is designed to look like a flowerpot, the base of the flower is the pot and measures around 4 inches tall, it is then topped with the flower head which removes completely. Underneath the head of the flower if the brush which is only a few inches in diameter, although I find this a little too small to use on myself, this is an ideal size for Lauren to hold and manipulate when brushing her hair. The colours of the pot and brush are really bright and appealing,
The bristles on the brush are really soft, flexible and unlike my hairbrushes, they aren't topped with balls on the end which raised two concerns; one that when using, it might scratch Lauren's scalp and the other that it wouldn't do what it was meant to do, if I hadn't already been using a Tangle Teezer, I would have looked at the brush and thought that it would be useless, but I know that the appearance is very deceiving!
Although I don't use conditioner on Lauren's hair, I would always have to use detangling spray as I could never get a brush through without tugging her hair, when using this, I don't have to use any and within a couple of minutes of brushing, all the tangles are gone. Using the brush has really helped improved Lauren's confidence, before her Tangle Teezer, hair brushing time always resulted in getting upset or seemed to take ages, she was also never able to brush her own either as would always miss the messy parts, with this, she like to brush her own hair and there are no more tears or tantrums!
One thing we seem to have a shortage of, no matter how many I purchase, it hair bobbles, this it ideal at keeping them all together in one place (I just need to train Lauren to put them back in at the end of the day!)
The only downside of the product is that the brush only rests on top of the pot so it isn't great for taking away, putting in a suitcase or if it gets knocked over. It would have been better if the brush screwed in place.
Overall, I would recommend the Flower Pot but for the reason mentioned above, I would deduct a star and therefore give this 4 out of 5 stars.
Thanks for reading.
