Tames your Tangles
Member Name: Torialou
Advantages: Pain free detangles hair.
Disadvantages: A little costly.
A few years back I was walking down the accessories isle at Boots when I noticed a bright pink flower looking device, I have to admit it was a very strange looking thing, I found myself drawn to the self to investigate. It was on the racks with the hair brushes but there was no way it was a hair brush! Was it? I thought it looked more like something from the toy section however upon inspection I was to learn it was indeed a hair brush, something called a Tangle Teezer. I had never heard of them and after seeing the price swiftly placed the device back on the shelf.
Over the next few months I found myself looking at the brush several times whilst shopping in Boots, I have naturally wavy hair that is prone to tangles and this brush claims to cut through the tangles no problem, however how could I really take something that looked like a kids toy seriously, on top of that it was £11.99 at the time, a lot of money for a hair brush!
I was very intrigued by the brush and followed their twitter page, one day I noticed a competition to win one of the brushes, why not? I thought and entered the comp. I honestly did not think I would win but it was worth a tweet. A few days later I got a shock tweet informing me I was to be the owner of a Tangle Teezer.
I asked if I could have a pink one and a few days later one of the original style Tangle Teezers in bubble gum pink came through my letter box, I was very excited to try it out and see if it really did remove the tangles.
The brush came in a very simple clear plastic box, I think it had the name Tangle Teezer in black on the box (sorry it's been a few years).
THE BRUSH ....
The original bush is a lot less fancy than the flower pot one, it is however possibly one of the most bizarre looking designs for a brush I have ever seen, the top of the brush is shaped a little like a large tear drop, below the drop of the brush are the bristles, which are very simple soft plastic prongs and the top of the drop is used to grip the brush. The name Tangle Teezer is embossed on the top of the brush.
The brush is used the same as a regular brush and you simple comb from top to bottom.
The brush was actually the invention of Shaun Pulfrey, he was working as a hair dresser and one day at work had an epiphany whist watching assistants dragging combs through freshly coloured hair that was knotted. He realised how much damage was being caused to the hair and decided he would come up with a solution, the out come was the Tangle Teezer!
To try and get funding for the brush he took the design on Dragon's Den but the dragon's blew him off, one claiming the brush to be a hair brained idea! Bet they are spitting fire now!
Shaun however believed in his product and persevered, he managed to get Boot's to stock the brush and the rest is history!
DOES IT WORK ....
So what is different to other brushes? Well the official page informs us that the Tangle Teezer works because the bristles are in specifically spaced designs so that the teeth flex over tangles without pulling or snagging.
Now I do not admit to understand the science, however I do know that it worked! I know this is an odd thing to say but this brush really did in some ways change my life. I no longer need de tangle sprays or leave in conditioners after I have washed my hair to enable me to try and get through my hair. When I wake up looking like the wild woman of Borneo I no longer face 20 minutes of trying to drag a brush through the knots to try and tame my hair.
Not to mention the fact that now I no longer am dragging brushes through knots I am doing far less damage to my hair and as such the condition has improved.
The designs of this brush are very odd but I will say do not be put off, there designs are as follows :-
Flower Pot - This is the original one I saw in boot's, it is a large bright coloured flower, which
is actually the handle and then the bristles look like roots. There is a little pot that
goes around the bristles to protect them. This one is really fun for kids, so no
more tats in their hair and moaning that you are hurting them!
Original - This is the first one I owned, the design really does resemble a large tear drop in
shape, the circle of the drop is where the bristles are and the top of the drop is
where you grasp and use as a handle.
Compact Styler - This brush is basically a travel brush, there is a bottom section that clips onto the
brush to protect the bristles whist in your handbag. It is slightly smaller in size.
Salon Elite - I have not actually seen this one in store but looking online it is very similar to
the original, but the top of the brush is shaped more like a bar of soap with a
slight curve to it.
Aqua Splash - The new kid on the block is their new Aqua Splash, it has been designed to be
used when brushing through freshly washed hair and is supposed to help resist
Over the years the Tangle Teezer has won lots of awards and it really does deserve them, despite the very odd looking design and simplistic look to the bristles they really do work! There is nothing you can fault with these brushes. They are fun, colourful and I am sure everyone can find one to suit their personality. I would not be without mine now, I only own two, my original one and a travel one, however they are both still perfect. They have lasted for years and are worth every penny.
The brushes are now widely available, you can buy them from their own website http://tangleteezer.com/index.php or high-street shops such as Boots.
I would suggest these brushes to everyone, especially if you have kids who moan when you are trying to brush their hair. This simple brush will keep the moans to a limit.
I give this 5 out of 5 with no hesitation! Perfect in every way!
Summary: Perfect in every way! Exceeded all expectations.
