Advantages: cheap and easy to use with a nice smell
Disadvantages: probably not ggod enough for use on longer hair
Whilst doing our shopping online at Tesco we had run out of shampoo when browsing through the ones available I stumbled across Tesco Apple and aloe Vera shampoo. What stuck out to me was the price, at only 62p for 750ml what a bargain! My wife will normally buy one of the leading brands as her hair is fairly long hair. When I compared the prices of the Tesco brand to the other leading ones I was shocked that they were triple the price and the size bottles were smaller too. This is false economy to me and my wife agreed to try it to see if it was as good as the normal ones we buy, here are our thoughts.
The size is a good size of 750ml when I looked at the other leading brands they were in smaller sized bottles of around 400ml. With a family of four the smaller bottles don't seem to last as long the Tesco bottle has seemed to last us ages and we haven't even finished the bottle yet.
The bottle is fairly attractive to look at; it is see through so you can see the green coloured shampoo through the bottle. My wife did say that it didn't look as luxurious as her normal brands but as I explained to her who see's the shampoo you use? Does it really matter? It's what is inside that matters. It has an easy to open capped lid which is very easy to use. There is nothing worse than struggling to open the cap on the shampoo bottle whilst in the shower like most I want to wash and go. The information on the back is plentiful it includes ingredients, directions for use and what to do if you get it in your eyes. It does state that if you are not completely satisfied with the shampoo they will replace or refund. I Think at the price it is it is definitely worth a try and if you don't like it you know not to buy it again after all it's only a miniscule 62p. It states that none of the ingredients have not been tested on animals by or for Tesco's; this is a real plus for us as we are against animal testing. Another plus for the product is that the bottle is made from high density polyethylene and the cap from polypropylene which can be recycled, great for the environment.
My experience of using it:
I was in the shower like I am every morning getting ready before work, I do wash my hair everyday but it is short so I can do this and have time. This shampoo is for frequent use so it is perfect. I wet my hair ready for the shampoo, when I opened the cap the smell of apples was quite strong and can only describe as pleasant. I couldn't really smell the aloe Vera but to me the nice apple smell was sufficient. I only put a small amount on the palm of my hand and lathered it into my hair. The lather was very good; you really didn't need to use a lot to create this. The smell of apple was still really strong and stayed constant as I lathered. The only bad point I thought was that the shampoo itself was had a thinner consistency to the leading brands that we usually buy, but what do you expect for 62p! When I came to rinse the shampoo it rinsed really well and didn't take too long to do this. In the morning I am usually pressed for time so the quicker I am in the shower the better. I know that it rinsed completely as in the past some shampoo's haven't rinsed as well and I can usually feel this on my scalp with a build up of residue which can tend to make me itch this shampoo didn't do this. My hair felt really clean afterwards and smelt very nice, but of course once I'd got outside the smell of apples disappeared! My hair looked shiny and not at all dull which was good as I do wash it everyday so my hair can potentially lose it's shine and vitality a bit.
My wife's experience using it:
Like I said my wife has longish hair hence why she normally likes the leading brands. She loved the smell like me and was intrigued to see if the price matched the quality of it. Being used to using top brands she needed a bit of persuasion. She found the bottle very easy to use, and put the amount I did on her palm to lather into her hair. She found that this wasn't enough and had to literally double the amount to make a decent lather. She could still smell the apple and found this very pleasant. She found it easy to rinse like me, so far so good. After she had conditioned and finished in the shower she came to dry her hair. She felt that her hair didn't feel as soft as it usually does and found it quite hard to run her fingers through it. Once she had dried it she was fairly happy with the result. She thought her hair did feel very clean and smelt nice but really didn't feel that the shampoo gave her hair the softness and bounce she was used to. When we have used it on my little girls hair we found it gave the same results as she as long hair too. When using it on my lad's hair it was fine but like me he has short hair. I must say that my wife is going back to her usual leading brand shampoo for her and my daughter as she wasn't totally satisfied with the outcome; I suppose hair is very important to women isn't it? I will be sticking to this Tesco brand for myself as I felt for me it did the job it was meant to. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's good for short hair but for long it may not be quite as sufficient, but I would recommend that if you haven't tried it to give it a go, at 62p what is there to lose!
Summary: a good and cheap shampoo give it a go

- 28/04/09 I use the apple one from Sainsbury's which is basically the same and I know what you are saying about it being of a thinner consistency, still great value for money. |

- 26/04/09 I agree with your wife. I would buy it if I was strapped for cash though but prefer more expensive brands. |
