Tesco Tea Tree Shampoo
Advantages: Clean and refreshing
Disadvantages: doesn't deter headlice which is what I originally bought it for
I didn't invite headlice 'round for tea they just followed the kids home from school one day. Unfortunately they were a bugger to get of rid of. Various chemical treatments and combing conditioner through the hair were short term cures as though the lice are easily got rid of the eggs are another story. Key was to stop the lice wanting to crawl onto the kids heads in the first place- that's where tea tree oil comes in. Known for it's anti-septic, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral properties it's also supposed to be a headlice deterrent.
When we finally managed to get rid of the headlice I wanted something to keep them from coming back and as they apparently hate tea tree oil I bought the shampoo. It wasn't hard to find Tesco sold it cheap- 88p for 750ml at the moment.
The shampoo has changed appearance since the above picture was taken, now the bottle is taller making it easier to hold, the lid has a flip top. The label reads 'Everyday Shampoo' Tea Tree for all hair types, it doesn't claim to be a headlice deterrent.
The shampoo itself is bluey green in colour with a nice consistency, it's not thick but not runny either making it easy to apply. The smell of tea tree is very distinctive quite medicinal minty and mentholish? probably an acquired taste- I do like it though.
Easy to use it's just the usual- apply a blob to wet hair, lather then rinse thoroughly. Because it's not too thick I don't need much to cover my head. It doesn't irritate but certainly wakes my scalp up with a slight refreshing tingle.
My hair feels slightly 'dry' whilst rinsing but a blast with the hairdryer soon softens it up. The shampoo is mild enough not to strip my hair so I don't have to condition it. I don't get really tangled hair anyway so can't comment on whether it lessens or worsens them. It leaves my hair feeling and looking clean and shiny. The smell although strong when freshly washed fades fast.
I don't use this shampoo as often anymore but buy it when it takes my fancy, at the moment I'm using tea tree shower gel and so will probably buy this shampoo when I run out of my current shampoo.
The burning question- Did it stop the headlice from coming back? No it didn't seem to- the only thing that worked altogether was leaving primary school!.
Even though it didn't do what I bought it for I would still recommend it and have continued to use it off and on.
5 Stars from me because it cleans my hair!!
Summary: A shampoo that's a bit different to the norm
