Tesco Value Baby Shampoo
Advantages: Goes a long way
Disadvantages: Price has just gone up!
This is a review of Tesco Everyday Value Baby Shampoo which I decided to try after being impressed with their value baby lotion product. The prices have recently risen on this product in store so I paid less but I have put today's price in this review (which is still very reasonable) so as not to be misleading.
The packaging of Tesco's value range has changed in the past few months so it's no longer the blue and white stripes but now a more pleasing montage style of bathtime items wrapped around the white (recyclable) plastic bottle. The lid is a flip top which you squeeze to release the product. We decant ours into a pump bottle as it's easier to measure out a small amount for washing baby's hair.
A couple of pumps (around 10ml) is plenty to wash our baby's hair and the product is yellow like a lot of baby shampoos. I notice that it is quite runny and a little watery but it still lathers up on contact with wet hair. We are careful when rinsing not to get the product in our daughters eyes but when it has gone on her face we have quickly rinsed repeatedly and she shouts a bit then gets over it! I have used this on my own hair as well to try out how it feels and it makes my hair really soft but I do need to use a lot as I have long hair and this is quite watery so it's not one I would turn to first.
I started off using the more well-known brands of baby bath, shampoo and lotion but found that the shop's own brands were a lot cheaper and worked just as well. I am a little torn over the shampoo though as I think that the Johnson's brand smells a lot nicer than the Tesco's Value range. Ultimately though, I think they do the same job and our daughter's hair is never greasy, sometimes there is food in there that we are washing out but it always comes out fresh and clean with this shampoo.
A 500ml bottle is 46p which I think is pretty good value for money. You might need to use a little more than usual but we are talking minimal amounts on baby's hair. I am pretty sure I paid around 11p for my bottle as the supermarkets seemed to be in a price war at the time about baby toiletries but the relative price rise has happened in all the major chains now.
I think this shampoo was quite nice and gentle for a baby's hair. Obviously for the first few weeks it is recommended that you only use warm water to clean your baby and no products but we would confidently use this on our new baby when it is a few months old. I think by decanting the bottle we make it go a (much) longer way and I think there are positive comparisons to be made between this value brand of shampoo and the more well known advertised brands out there. Would I repurchase? Yes but I will probably continue to buy branded shampoos when they are on offer as well.
Summary: Will buy again
