Advantages: Great for a quick fix
Disadvantages: Not so great if a long lasting style is needed
I scanned the shelves a few weeks ago looking to replace my can of hair mousse. My eyes wandered towards the expensive brands which were £3.00-£4.00 each and decided they were out of my price range at the moment. I finally opted for the Tesco value mousse purely for price reasons as the pennies are a bit tight with Christmas approaching.
I wasn't expecting miracles from this product but thought it was worth a try for the price.
The plain white cannister bearing the red Tesco Value logo was about as unappealing as you can get. It certainly didn't look very impressive but I thought it was worth a shot. The price for this 400ml cannister was just 47p, which is more than 1/5th cheaper than some of the better branded mousses on the shelves.
The mousse itself is white and quick thick, similar to that of shaving foam. I expected it to be quite thin and runny due to the price I paid, but I was actually pleasantly surprised. It didn't really have much of a scent to it, it was quite plain in this sense really, but as said previously I wasn't expecting too much from it so this didn't really surprise me.
I used it that night and the results were better than expected. Some mousses have a sticky feel to them and can leave your hair with that sticky feeling after use too, but this one didn't. I generally only use mousse on the ends of my hair to stop the ends sticking out, and after using this mousse I was surprised to find that the ends of my hair were still combable and had no stickiness to them at all.
The mousse did give a certain amount of hold to my hair, though not as much as I would have liked. Just after use, my hair didn't seem to move, which was the result I wanted. However just a couple of hours later the effect started to wear off and my hair looked almost limp and messy again.
This mousse is great as a quick fix but if you are looking for a mousse which is likely to hold your style in place all day then I am afraid you may be disappointed by this. It would certainly be no good in windy conditions either.
Overall I was more impressed with this mousse than I thought i'd be, but it didn't do the job as well as some better brands that I have tried. However, if like me you are short on pennies then this is a bit of a bargain really. Does the job ok, though not fantastically.
Summary: A bargain mousse
